No reverse after transmission rebuild
I rebuilt the transmission in my civic (BMXA) and the transmission wont go into reverse, I believe it wont go into 4th either. I took it out and back apart again to make sure the shift collar for reverse was installed correctly and check the 4th clutch pack, everything seems fine on the mainshaft and countershaft. I am not sure if there is an issue with the valve body or shift collar or something else.
I need some help from someone with experience on these transmissions, is there a way to test it before I put it all the way back together, or a common mistake made that could cause this issue?
I rebuilt the transmission due to a clogged filter (there was no material left on some of the 2nd clutches and the plates/end plate were worn

Re: No reverse after transmission rebuild
holmesnmanny,
thanks for reply.... on my BMXA that is not the issue... unfortunately.
I drove the car last night for 30 minutes... various speeds and all 4 gears... every drive gear/shift works perfect... no CEL's (check engine lights) ... no slipping... But for reverse... it still shudders (or maybe its slipping) just a little bit.
It seems to have gotten better last night from my first test drive in which I DID NOT HIT 4th gear (I only drove it up and down the street on my first run)...
Since I drove it last night maybe the transmission fluid got EVERYWHERE its supposed in the transmission and now the reverse seems to be getting better????? Maybe someone knowledgeable in this BMXA can tell me if reverse has anything to do with 4th gear (or its clutch pack)...????
Again, there are no CEL's... the car runs and shifts absolute perfect... but it just shudders/shakes/slips a little when I accelerate in reverse...??
Thanks for any help. I don't want to pull tranny again.

I PULLED THE EXTERNAL SOLENOIDS ON MY 02 BMXA and 2 were stuck good thing i was careful with the o-ring filter/gaskets. they were almost impossible to find
put 12 volts to those solenoids make sure there doing there job
