Default New to Civics and Honda-Tech

Got my first civic last month. Payed 2K for an 01 EX with 140k miles and bad struts. I commute 140 miles a day and with the price of gas needed something more economical. Guess it's no shock but now I'm in upgrade mode. I just cant leave a car stock. Installed some Tokico blues and Sportlines to fix the strut issue, then found I had two bent wheels. Just ordered some cheap ADR 17's and 215 45 tires and found out that the previous owner had never changed the timing belt. It started ticking so I pulled the cover off saw some wear on the outer edge of the belt. Looks like it was rubbing the cover which would explain some of the other faint noises I've heard. Now it's time for a new belt, tensioner and all that. Still think I got a good deal though. The car doesn't burn any oil, runs strong (even with a sloppy timing belt) and with the exception of a couple of minor scratches the body / paint is tip top. Just a few more tweaks and I'll have a respectable budget civic. Sorry just wanted to share that with people who might appreciate it. God knows my wife doesn't! (sorry for the novel it's lonely here in OK)

why'd I pay $8500 for my 01 LX with 81K on it...

Beofre going any further deffly replace the timing belt and water pump as well as transmission fluid and any Lucas additives to clean injectors etc. Check brake rotors and pads and while the car is up in the air throw some undercoating underneath. Baby her and she'll treat you well.

Yeah IU'd go with replacing the timing belt before you go on. And replace all fluids and oils and add some BG 44k next time you fill up the tank. It should help with cleaning up the fuel system. Just like Nighthawk mentioned.

Thanks for the advice. I just changed the oil 2 days ago (mobil 1 5-20). Old oil was thicker/darker than my morning java, and I drink some thick black coffee. Strange thing, it didn't tick until I changed the oil so I thought it was an internal issue at first but now I'm 99 % sure the noise is comming from the Timing belt. When I pushed the belt back toward the block and put everything back together the ticking was gone. Think I'll park it untill I change the belt. My other cars need road time anyway.

Actually you should put some BG MOA while you have new oil. I highly recommend it.

$2,000 for an 01-05 Civic is basically theft. You got one heck of a deal.

And, welcome to Honda-Tech, while I'm at it.

I should add I bought this off my step brother who bought it new and had 1500 left on the note. Think he just wanted a little extra after he payed it off. He was worried about the struts. A shop where he lives quoted 1500 to replace them. Man am I in the wrong business.

I've got a t3/t4 hybrid turbo sitting in the trunk that would be fun to bolt on. Its a replacement for one I blew in my 300zx. Maybe I'll rebuild the blown turbo and bolt it up when this motor needs a re-build. Don't think a high mileage car would last very long with 8 psi but it would be fun for a few seconds especially if I threw a 100 shot in there.

put the turbo on the civic, worse comes to worse buy a new well "used" engine off one of the civic sites for like $300.

140k miles on the 7thgen series is most i've seen, but i doubt thats all it can take, i wouldnt be surprised to see 200k+ depending how you drive it lol
