ELD issues? Stumbling while accelerating... Replaced but no fix!
Soooooooo......
I recently did a little tune up on my 01 EX.
Spark plugs, oil change, cleaned the K&N filter.
And sprayed the engine bay down with degreaser, then rised.
Allocated considerable amount of time for bay to dry (overnight).
Motor sputters like CRAZY when I gas it. Especially noticeable in lower rpms (aka if I bog it on purpose).
Almost like it is misfiring.
So I bring it to autozone and get code p1298 for Electric Load Detector (ELD) Circuit High Voltage.
After reading several threads on here, decide to replace the ELD and NOT fry my ECU.
Order the ELD for $40.
Replace the ELD.
No luck.
Still sputtering.
Whatcha think?
Alternator?
Im going to switch back to my old plugs and see if that helps the sputtering.
At this point I really dont know.
ATTN:
There was NO check engine light!
I decided to get it scanned @ autozone on a whim... and I guess the code was stored.
BUT the sputtering started after I did the tune up, so I think I may switch back to my old plugs and see if it due to these shitty autozone "autolite" platinum plugs.

check the alternator? check the voltage. is it too high? also check the voltage w/ the meter in AC mode (you should read very close to 0Vac). if you measure any ac voltage, the alternator diodes are bad.

So I got the ELD code, snagged an ELD from Honda and the stumbling still happenned.
So I switched back to my old spark plugs and guess what? Problem solved.
Screw any and all autozone branded product.

Re: ELD issues? Stumbling while accelerating... Replaced but no fix!
I am glad to have the update. It is interesting to me that the problems of the older (but granted plenty reliable) 88-95 Civics (among other years) are starting to manifest in the 2001-2005 model. E.g. often the older Civics had rough running, and new ignition wires, plugs or a new O2 sensor would fix it up. Another thread here reported recently that, despite not having a CEL, the problem with poor running was the O2 sensor.
Can you edit your original post to add the miles on your Civic?

My Civic has 95,000 miles.

It was about the spark plugs. I was simply saying that these things go out over time. Unless Honda is supposed to be using a technologically advanced wear resistant spark plug, it was time to change them lol.
