Default D17A2 dual stage vtec?

I just recently bought and installed a D17A2 into my 2002 honda civic LX auto. I know the motor is what comes in EX models but I noticed where the vtec solenoid there's two of them instead of just one?! I'm wondering if there were any dual/3 stage vtec d17? or did the shop I bought it from just put a solenoid from a d15b 3 stage vtec on it? also How would I wire this to a vtec controller or would I need to get an ECU?

Its a single stage VTEC engagement, due to the fact that there is only one extra set of valves that are opened. To wire the VTEC solenoid in, I'd suggest looking at the FAQ's. There's a tutorial on it, if I remember correctly.

I saw that FAQ post, but thing is my new engine came with two vtec solenoids instead of one. The block says D17a2 so Idk why it has two solenoids

A D17A2 only has one solenoid valve. Not sure why that's on there.

I have to admit, that is quite bizarre. I don't think it belongs there, to be honest.

So would I be able to swap just the vtec solenoid from dual to a single one? Or can I just hook up the green wired solenoid? I'm lost here and I've searched other forums too.....

That almost looks like an auto tranny solenoid set. I suggest you get the correct single solenoid and use the FAQ DIY to wire it up.
