yes, there was a version of the d15b that had a 3 stage vtec. it came in the EK3, and was a combination of both vtec and vtec-e.

ok so i read about it...from 3000rpm to 6000 its just basically its like any other vtec sohc motor...and at 6000 vtec kicks in for only 1200rpm?......i think id rather just have a y8 yea or complete motor which allows vtec to kick in earlier. what u guys think...

i vtec has nothing to do with this...thats a new generation of vtec with intellegance...but what i was saying is that you have to wait untill 6000 rpm to fully feel the power of vtec unlike a regular y8 or z6...and yea its probaly more fuel efficient but its not fully vtec you get me...is like a bit more of technology and theory to make that motor more fuel efficient

Its a normal D series untill "Vtec-e" kicks in, which means its only the exhaust side ports that open, and then you get the real Vtec, which is now the exhaust AND intake ports that are opening now.

Dont take this as 100% accurate, but it is VERY similar to what I have explained.

I have a 1.5 1997 3 stage vtec, its wicked, you get power and economy, i can get 80miles on 4 liters of petrol if driven in "ECONO" (lean burn mode) and if i want i can get 68MPH from 2nd gear and 100Mph from 3rd and 119Mph from 4th, what other engine can you get 130Ps and economy of a fiesta, i love it! , Oh and in regards to the other blokes question, Vtec kicks in at 5000Rpm all the way to 7.3000Rpm, just as good as normal vtec engine, plus mine is quicker than my mates standard 1.5Vtec Dseries, And 3 stage is just as tunable, Good ay

dude, its basically a lean burn z6, the 12v mode is from idle to 2500rpm, then 16valve mode from 2500 to 5700rpm, then 5700-7200rpm its the high cam lobes. 12valve isnt lean burn, it goes in and out of lean burn very often even in 16valve mode, but not in vtec, or at WOT. it makes the same HP as any other 1.6l sohc vtec engine but gets way more mileage. the only down side is that its an OBD2 engine (known for weak oil pumps) and getting ahold of one of the factory ecu's is a hard thing to do. now that you know your facts dont forget them.

No lean burn mode is only when you have the "ECONO" light on the dash to signefy it is running, Learn burn mode never "just comes on" , You can read all you like about the engine, but i have one and i know it well as you can feel it come out of lean burn mode as the power comes back, And as you stated, it has the power of 1.6 Sohc , But remember it isnt a 1.6 its a 1.5, making it in the cheaper tax bracket and insurance group lower, once again saving money, so your gettin just as good performance + economy with cheaper petrol costs, insurance costs and cost of taxing the car, They are the facts

SO you're saying that only the exhaust ports open<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Hondaciv95VX &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

So you're saying that Vtec-e only has exhaust ports opening? Perhaps I misunderstood/ misread this, but in Vtec-e I thought that only one intake valve opened (to save gas) and once vtec actuates, both intake valves opened. sry if I misinterpreted this

exactly, but most people think lean burn is anytime during low rpm, you can be cruising at 1400rpm in lean burn, give it a little more gas and still be in 12valve mode but not lean burn. the opposite is also true, you can be cruising at 3200rpm and be in 16valve mode and vtec as long as the throttle is low enough. im w/ you on everything else, im sticking up for this motor.

you bolt the flexplate to the crankshaft, then bolt the torque converter to the flexplate, then slide the tranny onto the torque converter.
