Cam holder bolts torque specifications
Hi there,
Does anybody know what the torque specifications for the cam holder bolts are? I have alldata, but it says bolts 1-10 are 8mm and the torque is 14lbsft. and the end cap holder bolts are 6mm and torque is 7lbsft. The bolts are actually 10mm for bolts 1-10 and 8mm for the end cap holders. Kind of confused. Help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Toyomatt, there is also a 14mm bolt located between bolt #10 and 12. Would you happen to know the torque specs for that bolt? TIA

The Honda service manual specs 14 lb-ft for the 8mm (bolts 1-10) and 8.7 lb-ft for the 6mm bolts (11-14, the two bolts on each end). Bolts are measured by the thread, not what size socket is required to remove it.

Those are the same number I got too, but if you take the car apart, the end cap bolts are 8mm and not 6mm for 11-14 and the other bolts are 10mm, not 8mm for 1-10. Thanks.

Having taken apart several D17 heads, reassembled them, and not ruined anything yet.... The torque specs are correct. It's been a few months since I've done it, and I'm not going to go take the cam caps apart to check bolt diameters right now. If alldata and the Honda bible agree, I'm not sure why you dont think it'll work. What are you measuring the bolts with? The honda parts catalog also agrees.... 1-10 are 8mm, 80mm long ,and 11-14 are 6mm, 35mm long.

Thanks BoilerMaker1. I will used those specs. I only questioned it because the manual says 6mm and those bolts are 8mm. I've learned from Automotive classes, that even manuals can be wrong. I wanted the experience from someone who has done it like yourself. Do you happen to know what the torque spec is of the bolt between 10 and 12? It is a 14mm bolt. Thanks again.

Re: Cam holder bolts torque specifications
i understand its not the size of the hex that matters here.
but the mm you are mentioning, are you speaking of the thread pitch or the length of the bolt?
and what sequence should it be tightened???

Re: Cam holder bolts torque specifications
The size of a bolt refers to the diameter of the threaded portion. They get tightened in a criss cross pattern very similar to the torque pattern for head studs.

Re: Cam holder bolts torque specifications
Ok take the bolt, put the hex head part that a wrench goes on face down on a table. The bolt should now be pointing at the ceiling. There is a circle on top, measure across it. That is the size of the bolt.
