Re: K24A4: Chain or Belt?
The chain has an automatic tensioner. If it fails or the chain is stretched your car would run very poorly,if at all. Regular oil changes are the best maintenance for a chain. Why do you ask? There is a chain stretch inspection method by removing a small access cover over the tesnioner and measuring the tensioner rod. How many miles on your car?

Re: K24A4: Chain or Belt?
My car has 114,000 miles on it. I only asked about the tensioner because I read about it in the other threads so i'm curious if there is a maintenance schedule for it.
Also, besides the water pump and spark plugs, what else should I change for my car in terms of engine compartment? And when you meant automatic tensioner, did you mean that the computer will adjust the tensioner by itself?
Thanks

There is no computer that adjusts the tension. It is self adjusting mechanical. I would not replace the H20 pump unless it has a leak/noise/problem. I like to baseline service a vehicle when I buy it because I like to KNOW it has been done. It gives me a single point of reference as to service history which is often times unknown to used car buyers. Of course we would all like to buy cars with perfectly followed dealership service records and receipts in the glove box, .... but thats not the car business. All used car lots are stocked mostly with cars from used car auctions. The local one owner trade ins are at the dealership used car lots. That said unless I have verifiable service history to reference I like to start by doing all the required maintenance up to the mileage point that I am at . I would change the plugs, drive belt, All Fluids,All serviceable filters, and the PCV valve. If you want you could also inspect/adjust the valves. Now, every X,000 miles blank is due. Easy to keep up with. I recommend All OEM parts/ fluids just because I think they are best suited for the car.
