Sorry I could not comeup with better title for this.

Within driving for 2 min, car almost died at a stop and at signal and that is it, no problem from that point. Thought its a 'hiccup' and ignored it. After couple of days it did same thing but died in middle of road at a Stop sign.

Tried several times to start but did not work, called for towing service in about 30 minutes tried again and it started fine. No problem after that with any stop signs and signals.

What might be happening here? I always close the lid tightly until its clicks and never keep it running while pumping gas.

Please help.

I'm assuming a 4 cylinder. Based on the limited information you've given us, it could be a number of things. Ignition switch contact assembly, worn or damaged cap/rotor/plugs, main fuel relay, distributor ignitor, etc.

Is the Check Engine light on? When the car stalled, did you note anything unusual in the dashboard, like all of the warning lights shutting off or the immobilizer light blinking?

Sorry for not enough info. Here to best of my knowledge.

Yes, it is 4 cyl. All lights on dash were OFF when the car stalled. No Check Engine light at any time. No battery problem. It is at 130K, other than regular oil change, did not do maintainance of 100K.

sounds to me you have a bad ignition switch.

what you can do to see if its the ignition switch is when you go and start the car turn the ignition switch as if you were going to start it and when you release it back(ignition switch) let it back easy and see if it stays running.

x2. The lack of warning lights when the engine stops are a clue. The oil pressure and charging lights would come on if the engine had stalled on its own.

Try jiggling the key around a little bit while the engine is running. If the engine shuts off, the electrical portion of the ignition switch is bad.

Have you owned this car since new?

If you have, and you know that the ignition switch has never been replaced, Honda may cover it under their ignition switch recall campaign.

If it has been replaced once already, they usually won't cover it a second time. Give a call to your local Honda dealer and ask them to check if the ignition switch recall was performed. Have your VIN ready.

FYI friends, my car died again so took to the dealer. They ran diagnostics and said they cant find anything. But they cameup with suggested repairs of about $1800 of course they said it wont necessarily fix the problem, which they do not know.

Did you ever ask them to check if the ignition switch recall was performed?

sounds like a main relay to me......the 2 common issues with those cars are main relays and ignition switches. Check to see if they're are any outstanding safety recall's on the car. You're local honda dealer will be able to check for you at no cost.

There was a recall on the ignition switch on most, or all, '99 Accords (I have one). When they go bad it will cause the problem you are experiencing.

Check this first, if the recall has been done then start looking at the other things mentioned above.

And out of curiosity, what were they wanting to do for the $1,800? Also, how many miles are on your car?

for 1800 they better find the problem, it sucks to pay that much, but its a $1800 guess is wat they are charging, from wat everyone is saying check the recall and go from there, its better to take the route that wont dent ur pockets....G/L

Even if the ignition switch recall was already performed, I still believe the car has a bad switch. It's just worth checking into the recall status to see if Honda will cover it for free or if the original poster will have to pay.

1800 bucks sounds like a large price to pay for this issue. I wonder what they want to do for that price, if it is a ignition switch the part is only like 70 bucks @ max and the labour is like 100. Wow they covering they're behind on this big time

-Wheel bearing
-Coolant leaks from crossover pipe and upper radiator hose
- exhaust B pipe starting to leak
- oil leak from oil pan gasket. possible rear main seal (I have never seen any drips on the floor)

Yes, they checked the switch and said its been replaced. But I did not ask them to check it again. I am little surprised howcome they did not find anything on the diagnostics.

it has 125K miles on it. It is automatic transmission.
