what are ways to go around using a spring compressor? im pressed for time as im about to install my neuspeed sports so a mechanic said if i brough hit all 4 assemblies he would take out the old springs and mount my new ones on for $40. feedback is welcomed
i use a mounted wheel/tire to put on top of the spring/shock assembly.(on the bottom end of the spring) i put the other end kinda inside a rubbermaid trash can to catch the parts when they fly off. i crouch with all my wieght on the tire so it doesnt go anywhere.

my friend is trying to convince me to just use clamps
since you should have your tires off, lay two tires on the ground. Set the base of the strut on one tire, parallel to the ground. Then move the 2nd tire close to the top of the strut and slowly undo the bolt. When it pops, it should hit the top tire and shouldn't kill you.

someone said to undo the top bolts and everything before you jack up the car...then as you jack it up it will uncompress....any insight to this?
if you do that it will be a bitch to remove the setup. Trust me I thought of doing that and then figured out that if I did there would be no way to get the shock out of there. Go rent a spring compressor from autozone. I think it is a 43 dollar down on the rent but you get it all back when you return it. That is what I did.

use the search featuer. this has been discussed a few times here. i use a towel and a brick wall to remove the springs without a compressor. just start undoing the nut and allen screw with a towel covering the end. make sure the setup is about 8-10 inches from a brick or block wall. when the nut comes off, it will bounce off the wall and be trapped inside the towel. then you wont lost the nut, and the spring is out. real simple, and not dangerous.
just go to autozone and rent the spring compressor, very cheap plus u get it all back just like someone else already said, thats what i did. or if u have the dough have a shop do it. its much safer with the compressor or having a shop do it less likely to lose andy needed parts.
