Default How to: Compression Test.

Hey guys.. sorry if this has been posted already.. but I tried searching google High and Low.. and I flipped through the Sticky at the top of the page.

I'm trying to do a Compression test on my 1997 Acura 2.2 CL and I don't have the slightest clue as to HOW. I bought a Compression tester from Auto Zone yesterday.

If anyone could help me out.. I'd REALLY appreciate it.

I'd like to also take pictures while I do this so that maybe we can add this to the FAQ's at some point.

Thanks!

disconnect dizzy power ....
take a spark plug out.
screw compression tester in spark plug hole.
make sure compression tester isnt in your belts......
crank car for 10 seconds. read compression.
put plug back in 15-20 ft lbs.

repeat for your other 3 cylinders.

Better:

-Take ALL spark plugs out.
-Compression tester in the hole.
-Disable fuel injectors by unplugging them, or disconnect connector going to distributor up to you, preferably injectors.
-Have somebody crank the car AND hold gas pedal depressed, not doing this WILL GIVE YOU INCORRECT READINGS.
-Crank till you get a static pressure.
-Repeat for all cylinders.
-Pat yourself on the back and have a cold one.

what ever turns the injectors off and is the easiest and quickest way is the best and WTF is a Dizzy? that has got to be the most annoying slang I've ever heard.

Isn't there a relay or fuse you can unplug?

distributor = dizzy.

also yes you can pull fuses to disable the ignition and the fuel system, which fuses I cannot find out from my current locale.
