How to do a compression test?
im about to go to the track soon and i want to know that my car is running right in all aspects. if i want to do a compression test on my own what would i have to do?
Basically all you have to do is buy a compression tester from sears and plug it into each one of the spark plug holes one by one. Then you get the compression for each cylinder.
An instruction manual usually comes with the tester.
Mine cost 70 bucks i think.

tools you need:
Compression tester
Spark plug socket w/ extension
a friend (helps to have the extra hand to crank the car over)
dry test procedure:
1. pull the injector ground fuse/plug
2. unplug the distributor
3. remove all FOUR spark plugs
4. insert the compression tested into cylinder #1, crank engine over 5 times with the throttle plate wide open.
5. write down results, example: 195psi
6. repeat for other three cylinders.
7. maximum variance between cylinders should be no more than 20psi.
good luck!
