How does a distributor signal the fuel pump to turn on?

I wish I could. I have a 93 with the same problem.
I replaced:

main relay
distributor
fuel pump & lines
ignition switch

Today I still have the same problem.

I have a similar problem, so will post if I figure anything out with mine that relates.

Given that the engine started when you sprayed carb cleaner in the throttle body, and then died two seconds later (when the carb cleaner was burnt off) it would seem you have a fuel problem.

What's the source of that? You seem to have replaced the mechanical items; filter, pump, that might be a problem, so I'm guessing it may be electrical.

Okay, may not have helped, just trying to narrow it down. I'll let you know what I figure out with mine. Post if you get it working.

ok ya'll easiest way to check fuel pressure is at the rail. Loosen the nut on the fuel line going to the fuel rail it's a 12mm nut. release the pressure and then retighten and try to restart the car and open the same nut again is there pressure? you got a fuse under the hood labeled fuel pump check it next. if the fuse is good go to the main relay unplug it and with the ignition off... jump terminal no. 4 and 5 together, ( looking at the plug with the lil clip on top its the two terminals on the bottom to the left). go to the plug for the pump in the trunk it has 3 wires in it. and with the ignition back on see if you have voltage at terminal 1 that is the one that is all the way to the left of the plug with the clip on the top. If thats ok check to make sure you have a good ground on the pump side of the harness you just checked. if all that is good you have a bad fuel pump. I have pages from the factory service manual if you need that to help you. just pm me.

What was the outcome of this? I have a friend with a 95 accord F22 vtec that has a 98 F23 vtec swapped in because of the original engine smoking. He has replaced main relay, distributor, coil, ignition control module, ECM, Plugs, wires, Rotor. Car will not set CMDTCs. Being OBD-1 you can't read but so many values. I personally havent done much with the car besides been 3 feet from it walking past it. He has OHM'd out all the wires from the distributor to the PCM and ignition switch and all check out fine. He has check all the grounds and found them to be fine. He has injector pulse. He has noticed he has intermittent spark. When he has spark it is good hot spark. Fuel pressure is 38-42 psi. Engine was swapped in using all the original components besides longblock. Person who put the engine in for him broke the bellhousing and it was replaced and car wouldnt turn over 4500 rpm (did this only with the new engine). Car ran and drove but would act like it was bouncing the rev limiter at 4500rpm. The car did foul out the converter and it was replaced with a straight pipe. It has compression (over 120psi and withing 15psi across all 4). He needs help and I dont know jack about them. So any help would be nice.

Hello, I have a 96 Honda accord just bought recently.when purchased timing belt was broke as well as crank position sensor. We have changed n fixed those problems. Check engine light was on took an had it scoped called for new plugs n wires. Bought n put them on which fixed it running rough ran great up untill this morning now it cranks over but won't start..checked battery, belts, fuel compression all which is great. Being new to owning a Honda I don't know what else could be going on. Needing a little insight please and thank you.
