1999 Honda Accord LX Over Heating
I have a 99 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder and just yesterday it started getting to the H while I've been driving. I just changed the oil two weeks ago (didn't change the filter) and I just added coolant 15 minutes ago and it still goes to the H. After I added the coolant the car started smoking and then it started making a squeaking sound. So i just pulled it into my driveway and parked it. Does anyone have any advice?

why did you not change the oil filter? Its standard operating procedure to change the filter while changing the oil. Your breaking the rules.

flush radiator, change thermostat and add coolant. check the radiator cap, replace if you have too. check for leaks after words. let me know if you still have problems.

that too...unless you meant that you didn't change the air filter, then thats ok if you just clean it out. oil filter change is a must when changing oil.

Yes after I read your advice, I checked my thermostat and radiator cap. They were both bad and now my car is up and running. Thanks for everyone's help

You better flush your whole system. Adding coolant the improper way will just leave you with air bubbles in your system, and you don't want that. Change your thermostat.
But before you do all that, check to see if there is any holes in your system. Air may be seeping out of the system.

My car overheats sometimes while idle or standing still. I googled the issue and found that it could be the condensor fan. My 99' has two fans, one on the drivers side and one on the passengers side. The condensor fan is the one on the passenger side. I swapped or crossed my outlet plugs to test both my fans and outlets. Both outlets and the drivers side fan were fine, however, my condensor fan is not working. I ordered an aftermarket condensor fan, complete with motor online. My cost was $61.00 shipped.

in hindsight, you should have just turned on the AC & see if BOTH fans go ON...

Re: 1999 Honda Accord LX Over Heating
Excuse me, as I failed to mention earlier, that the first step I took was to turn on the AC to see if both fans would turn on. Only the drivers side fan turned on. After that, I unplugged both fans and swapped the plugs. Again, only the drivers side fan came on... A/C or not, each time, the condensor or passengers side fan failed. Installed the new fan the other evening and now both fans work. Unfortunately, it appears that the root cause of my problem is the instrument cluster. If I hit the dash, the temp will drop down to normal. Also, I failed to mention that the engine has never really overheated. Always temps at 200 degrees or below. So, looks like I overlooked the guage. I now think that it's the problem. However, we will see... could be anything with this car. Bottom line, daddy needs a new chariot. Tired of this old, raggedy, gas guzzling and parts hungry car.
