he drove from my house to a local car wash about 4 blocks away. stop the car, have them wash it, on his way back, halfway it died. from the time he drove off until the time his car stop was about 30-40min.

when i was removing the old oil filter the filter came off but the rubber o-ring was stuck on the engine block. i didn't notice it and put on a new filter. the new filter has already a rubber o-ring.

basically you have just double gasketed the oil filter, if there was no oil in the crankcase for a while, chances are the motor is gone.
i did the same thing too about 3 years ago in my ef hatch, luckily i noticed it when i was at the store (oil coming out of filter when engine was on, was a whistleing sound) and me and 2 of my buddies pushed the car all the way back to my house which was 10 blocks away memories

oh i see. man this sucks than. i guess the motor is gone. how much would a stock 98 motor cost? and oh yeah, when i was pouring in the oil, i mix a few brands, would that effect anything, it was all regular non syntetic 10-30 oil. just different brand. i used 4 costal, half bottle of exxon, and half of chevron. dont ask me why, i dont even remember why. but could that effect anything?

mixing oil of the same type and grade shouldn't really matter. As to why you put 5 quarts in (4 + 1/2 + 1/2) I am not to sure, it's a little much.
The motor may not be gone. His oil light should have come on if he ran out of oil. If he kept driving with his oil light then ya the motor might be fucked and it's his fault for driving with an oil light.
