Say it aint so boosted? Damn, you put so much time - but I understand sometime you have to make do.

I didnt realize how much not having an actual garage makes a difference on me working on my car. Sure the apt has underground parking, but youre going up an an elevator everytime you realize you dont have something you need.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get something figured out. It never was an issue before - but has come up after my rebuild. I had a full rebuild with a small overbore on pistons and crank bearings. Also added a new (factory) IACV.

In the morning my car high idles at 1500 rpm, and as I drive off, the idle drops to norm and as I come to the first few stops the rpm drops to 500 and bounces up to the 750.

But after the first few, the idle drops all the way and the car stalls. I have to start up again, it stalls again unless I give some gas or start moving again. Once I drive for a bit on the freeway and get off (10 miles? 15) it'll start holding fine at 750. The idle does however feel a 'little' rough, not super smooth.

Any ideas? I have a factory FIV on order, but trying to see if it could be anything else.

RSZero1 check your coolant level. Might need to burp your system, air in it.

To do the factory fiv, you can use brake cleaner to clean it out.

It is usually one of two things dirty valve or low coolant (air pocket)

Okay RBW, I'm here at work, but at lunch I went out and burped the system. Some air and bubble came out - so I'm hopeful.

Did you have a similar issue? How does one affect the other? Just so I know for future situations.

Thanks!

RSZero1 welcome man.

EF guys help each other out.

That one is a pretty easy one.

I've had a few cars with that issue "commonly known as hunting idle"

I'm hpoing some of you can help me out.

I just inherited my dad's civic 89 sedan to daily. He replaced the front seats with 98 civic seats and didn't change the seat pan/rails, so the back-inner bolt doesn't line up. There is a god-awful lean. I made a temporary wood block to raise that corner up, but it still makes me lean a little (killing my back).

I was going to throw my crx seats in it since it's down anyway, but the rails are different on it too. CRX is a 91.

What seats can I bolt into this sedan? the 98 civic seats sit way too high also. My legs rub the bottom of the steering wheel. Can I put del sol seats in it? what about some tweed wago-van seats?

Thanks!

89 civic sedan seats should work well.

88/89 sedan has different pans and rails than crx/hatch as well as 90/91 sedan... in essense nothing will work properly except the oem seats unless you do a seat pan swap.

well I finally had my first track experience. I went to 86fest this past weekend at the Fontana Autoclub Raceway.

They had autox and the "Roval" part road course, part high speed oval. I signed up fpr the beginner class on the Roval. We had 4 sessions at 25 mins a piece.

It was a blast, first session was pretty much an orientation on the track with 5 cars following an instructor on the course to familiarize with the track and run the driving line - no passing.

Second session was with point by passing practice on the front straight only - 5 cars following an instructor.

Third session was no instructor, point by passing on the front straight.

Man it was a blast - most of my group were nissan GTR's, Porsche's BRZ's and FRS's. The two lowest HP cars were my civic and an 85 non SC MR-2 - so the overall group speed was pretty good.

Chuck, our instructor was awesome as well.

Here are my car details before i post any times - I'm still uploading pics, but i dont have very many, ill put them up later -

1991 Honda Civic Si
Stock D16A6 full fresh rebuild with 10 over on the pistons and crank bearings (1,000 or more miles on the build)
DC 4-2-1 Header
No Name Intake
New Synchrotech trans
S2k Dual bend shifter
11lb flywheel
New Stock Clutch
Tired and soon to be replaced - Tokico Blue struts
Eibach pro kit springs
Urethane Bushings all over
ST f/R sways
SSR Type X 15x7
195/50/15 Kuhmo's
Generic exhaust 2.25 piping
New/rebuilt front calipers
new discs
new brake pads

LAP TIMES -

First Session in group behind instructor
3:51.349

Second Session point by passing practice
3:03.649
2:58.711

Third Session no instructor, point by passing on front straight only
2:41.901
2:39.043
6:17.709 Black Flagged for missing point by pass with two fast *** bmw's and a corvette behind me - I misjudged how far they were behind me, d'oh.
2:39.734

I left before the fourth session because I was getting pretty tired being there at 6:50 am for registration, i left by about 4 or so.

I have no idea how my times were as I had no one to really compare to in my group. There was even a full race corvette out there with a new driver, lol.

He unfortunately didnt have a transponder - I thought the same thing, lol. It was a cool group overall though.

There was some good natured ribbing about my car getting sucked into the intakes of the faster cars - but it was all in fun.

I don't think you should even be SEEING your lap times if it's your first time out. That's the last thing you want to be worrying about. You should be seeing other cars, corner workers, coolant temps, etc.

Oh yeah, I didnt see times until it was all over. I spent my time on track doing those thing - watching flags, cars, corner workers and car vitals.

thats great BLU! Congrats!

Since nobody has a good answer for the seat problem how about another?

Reverse lights don't work. I've narrowed it down to a open in the green/black wire to the lights. Anyone know where that green/blk wire does the split in the cabin? I've tried googling for a while now and nothing useful at all comes up.

Seat problem was answered - no simple fix, either stock seat, seat pan swap OR aftermarket seat with a mount. I have a wedge engineering seat bracket (driver side) for the 89 if you need it

Boy has it been a long weekend, hope you guys have had a good one. After 6 stripped bolts, and careful strength I installed my ITR spec Buddy Club Spec Dampers.
Used stock ITR LCAs & EG front forks.

Once I finish breaking it in, and I get some other things I need I will adjust these accordingly.

Oops didnt get to say earlier - congrats Blu - Adrian!

Damn that black CRX is looking very clean with the overall stock appearance - I love those stock alloys and wish the Si Hatches had a standard alloy. I am tempted to pick up a set of the swirls to have a more stockish appearance.

I am getting to the end of my rope with my hatchie though. I have an intermittent stalling issue. Coming to a stop (esp when cold) the idle drops to a stall. I have a new fuel pump, new fuel filter, had the engine rebuilt (1000+ miles since), replaced the IACV, and most recently the FITV (last one in stock at Honda NA, per my supplier).

Yesterday was the first day after installing the FITV and I actually had no stalls morning when cold or at night after work - so I was pretty jazzed. Today though, I stalled 3x on my way to work before the freeway this morning.

Its really pissing me off. I dont have any vac leaks i can tell. What else would cause the issue? Since I dont have a garage any more, I cant really diagnose when I get home in the evenings.

Idle is not hunting (burped the cooling system as well), its really just this idle drop - and no CEL either.
