Dang, my old LS trans didnt feel so bad. You guys must have them coupled with some seriously laggy *** motors, lol, or talking without ever driven with one in an EF.

On a side note, when driving on the street, all the shifting that needs to be done with the shorter ratio trannys can get annoying as hell.

I would like to test it out to make sure. If I make some money I hope to test out a LS and a b16 tranny to see what the results are
by side note:
is 100 mph at 4,300 rpms reasonable??

Ive tested it out so im speaking from first hand experience.

4,300 @ 100? Sounds like an LS tranny, i dont remember what rpms i was at when i was doin 100mph, lol. My B16 tranny has an LS 5th so my cruising speed on the freeway is unchanged. A B16 tranny with its original 5th gear will be a hell of a lot higher when doin 100mph.

I had an LS tranny on the B16 swap in my old rex. The torqueless motor combined with long gears made it feel pretty gutless.

Differences in engine power will make a difference, of course.

edit: ^^ that sounds stupid.

So for a daily driven can recommend LS 5th gear???

Obviously my opinion will differ from others. While i think its "not that bad" others may think its horrible, lol.

Oh for sure. Many people get by just fine without it though. Nihkon comes to mind. Almost everytime i ride with him i make a comment about the RPM's (LMAO Jason ). It all comes down to preferance.

You take what u can get/afford and deal with it.

LMAO! I was just about to post about that! haha

But yeah, I think the short 1-4 are fun for the street. But the LS 5th would be nice to have to avoid hearing the engine revving at 4500-5000k at 80mph!

I have two complaints with the short geared b16 tranny's. 1st gear and 5th. 1st. is so short that it annoys me, and 5ht is so short that you are practically in vtec on the hwy.

Yeah i come to this conclusion also, but to build a k20 turbo is way more money then i pay a year in tuition, so im just going ot hang out until there.

alright....

my next built motor is going into a car that in stock trim will have working AC and PS and whatnot. so its a matter of sacrifice. if i am going to sacrifice those power amenities, i am not going to sacrifice them for a ****-ant b16, a 185whp lsv that is old news or even a 200+whp b20 vtec that will feel slow after a week. but i will sacrifice them for a 300+ k24 all motor pump gas set up. or a lightly boosted reliable 400whp k24 boost set up.

and besides, the aftermarket is getting ready to make a full swing toward the K.

also, if you knwo where to look (like heinrich crxEE8) you can build a K24 i-vtec for about what it costs to build a b20vtec these days. maybe a **** hair more because the cams are 700 bucks.

edit: basically, i want to keep up with the technology and make big reliable power so i can run full interior and not feel like a slug. gone are the days of gutting the **** out of a car to make an LSV feel fast.

I'm thinking of adding LS 1st and 5th gear.
I'm glad I read about this being possible seems like in the long run i would have wanted to throw my car out a window because of the gear ratio
