not sure if your being sarcastic or serious.. these arnt the first bikes posted with no brakes. That bike and many of these track frames arnent drilled for brakes. Stopping is all in the legs.. with the right ratio you can stop just as quick.. makes you a more cautious rider
i can't think of a clever thing to say back.
here is an updated pic of my bike taken yesterday. new Spinergy carbon wheel, Snytace Stratos bars/chopped and Fizik Pave' gel saddle. i like it.

edit: i started learning a bit from bikeforums.com
, i'm still looking into which setup would be right for me and what gearing i would need for the environment i'll be in (since u know me, UMCP is where i'm going to be riding it
)
for all other needs i'll have my road bike/mtn bike
u should get into homie, we can start a biking gang and wearing matching gear

If you know how to ride your bike you dont need brakes. it has nothing to do with fashion..... at least not for me. i've been an avid cyclist almost my whole life, riding and racing on and off for 18 years. when i started riding track bikes in the mid 90's I had only seen a couple other ones on the streets. they were friends of mine who were couriers. back then nobody knew what they were, and we liked it that way. sammysnakes was there
so no, its not a fasion statement for true cyclist. its about you and the bike working as one unit. no gears, no brakes, simplicity at its best. aside from that they are just fun to ride, theyre fast, light, and when theyre locked up theres nothing to steal

Actually they are very functional. They aren't intended to be ridden on the streets, they were designed to be ridden on a velodrome. They have no brakes for a reason, they aren't needed, it's added useless weight.

What makes you think that I don't know how to ride a bike? I used to bmx and freestyle and do all that ****. I just don't see the point of not having brakes. It's not like a skateboard where you just jump off instantly. It's not like brakes are some extremely hard to obtain object on a bicycle. You're sitting here saying that by removing your brakes and all the clutter you are now "one with the bike" To me that doesn't make sense and that it's just some silly fad. I can barely understand the reasoning for removing the additional gears. Whether it's for less rotating mass, less mechanical components that are prone to failure and to force you to train your legs in some "long gear" And by long I mean a higher tooth count on the crank and a lower tooth count on the rear hub. I can go out on a limb and understand the logic behind this it makes sense for certain individuals, that's cool.
But to remove the brakes entirely? I can understand if brakes were always failing. But they're a very simple design and they rarely screw up. Even the V or Y or whatever you call them brakes. Or maybe using a coaster brake (as "noob" as it may seem) If you want a cleaner look maybe run the cables through the frame. Or if it's the front just run the cable through the stem and through the fork (like any gyro equipped freestyle bike)
I still don't see the point of removing the brakes.

1 lb if you're lucky. most brake arms/calipers and levers are cast aluminum.

Majority of these people never removed anything, the bikes HAVE NO BRAKES to begin w/, they have NO mounting holes, and the clearances are too tight to fit brakes even if you did want to put them on.
