I've gotten in the habit of saying 3 door just because I'm getting sick of all the other "nicknames" people have for hatches.

 

I just waiting for a FS thread that says "I'll have to admit to the potential purchasers of this bubbly eggy hatchy that the aforementioned vtec does not pop hard @ all".

 

My vtec popping in general is non existant.

 

in my family, mine is referred to as "the hatchback" or "the ugly car"

 

Mine is just "the silver car" or "the blue car." Other people around me actually call them "the EG" or "the EK." For some reason I don't. Never thought much about it either way.

 

Mine is called little red riding hood......and I also hate the word egg or hatchie or teggy..

yeah..i have a "hatch" and a "sedan". i guess since they are both "egs" it makes it easier but i think i would refer to them as i do regardless if i had one or the other.

i think it is funny to have people who "arent" into cars ask/talk about your car. coming home from a track event i pull up to a stop light and a couple dudes in a donk are next to me. one goes "hey is that fast?" and i reply "no it is pretty slow." he looks amazed and goes "isnt that a race car?" i kind of laughed and said "no it is just a car that is fun to drive."

a valve job and new cams are on the list of things to do as well as LSD. Gonna work on the suspension to try and cut that 60' down.
I call mine a hatch. But I'm guilty of using the word egg in my screen name on other forums lol. SLOWEGG, only because it fits on a license plate

 

yeah i had some billies in a mustang pull up to me and my friends who were talking in a parking lot. the passenger says "we want to race the red car for slips!" i said "ok. i pick the place." he replies "ok. where?" and i say "putnam..not the dirt track. the road course." him and the driver looked at each other funny then proceeded to do a one wheel peel out of the parking lot.

back in the day i was driving the hatch when it had a bad 2nd gear synchro. so im leaving work and literally hit 4 stop lights. this cavalier sedan packed 5 deep with "goth" kids keep mashing it at every light. we would pull up to the next light at the same time and they are all giggly because they are "beating" me. it got old and i was wishing they would check out their latest pick up for hot topic. but this was to no avail so finally at the 5th light it was kind of downhill. i said screw it time for me to get a laugh. im in the left lane and i roll out in 2nd gear. of course they are all over the throttle as the light turns green but to their surprise i am right next to their doors when vtec "pops". the look on their faces were priceless because the car sounded subtle at low rpms but "came alive" in vtec. they went from cheesing big time to the look on their face that one of their friends now wears hollister.

 

One time in my old '89 Civic Dx hatch, a big Chevy truck pulled up next to me at a stop light and the passenger asked me if I wanted to trade lawn mowers. It was actually a pretty good joke. I denied the trade since I'd probably get laughed at even more so if I was at a stop light sitting on a lawn mower.

and yes i used to call them "hatchy" (my username duhh) but i grew out of that and simply call the hatch or hatchback now. i hate the "bubble" term

 

I pulled up to a light in the middle of nowhere after doing a little pull on the highway in my old B16A CX and an older guy in a 70 Nova pulled up next to me at the light. His grandson in the passenger seat rolls his window down and asks "Is that a V6?", I replied "nope 97 cubic inch 4 cylinder". His jaw dropped and he just laughed when he realized his Nova had three times the Cubes that my Honda had. He laughingly asked if I wanted to run his "stock 350" and I obliged. About 80 I was 2-3 cars ahead. We pulled in to a vacant lot and he could not believe he just got beat by 97CIs of Japanese rice haha. He had me pop the hood and we sat there for 30 mins shootin the ****. It blew his mind that my car only weight 2100lbs and revved to 8500RPMs 100% internally stock. I miss that little car, but the red one is WAY nicer and a lot more solid than the ole rust bucket was. This was probably 6 years ago and I've gotten a lot wiser since then. It's still a night I will never forget. I used to see him driving around from time to time and he would give me a nod or wave as we passed.

 

yeah it is always awesome when a "pushrod" guy wants to shoot the breeze. i remember the first time my stepdad rod in my b16 hatch. he was stoked on it and out at the track ill have "old dudes" come up and chat about the honda. but then again i guess when you get down to the basics of a car guy..a car guy loves and understands the true beauty of a car no matter the make or model.

 

Word. That's what's so great about old-school muscle car guys. They don't care if it's a rice burner. They're just happy to see the next generation of enthusiasts. The new-school muscle car guys are the ones that usually have a chip on their shoulder about import vs. domestic crap.
