Interesting comment and not incorrect to be fair, but not entirely true either. The topic of the "our" old thread was titled "H-T's best del Sol". The thread was begun by user Kite who clearly asked for people to post "H-T's best del Sol".

But what defines "Best" when we're talking about the same model from the same manufacturer with only one generation ever in production? If we were talking about the Honda Civic, it would pretty obvious that the latest model would be the "best" since it's the most up to date, and most refined by engineering terms... right?

Well not exactly, since we're talking about automobiles (and the same make for that matter) how do we define best? Best condition? Or perhaps "best" performance? Perhaps there is an (s)Olympiad of some sort (mind the Greek pun), to determine whats best.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what is defined as "best" is subjective and abstract. So if a title is subjective and abstract and lacks a clear definitive explanation, how can one determine what is "off topic" and what isn't?

From a personal standpoint, and admittedly biased, I'll prove objectively how the thread was not only "off topic" but more enriching and actually more "on topic" than believed.

Going through the pages one by one, it is blatantly obvious that there are posts widely off topic and non productive in any case whats so ever. There is no denying that. But to be fair, there have been very many technical responses which are unexpected in the Appearance and Cosmetic forum - for it's main purpose was to relieve the technical forums of picture threads. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

When users were in need of parts, many people on the thread stepped up and even offered parts for FREE because there was a sense of community. Everyone was willing to help the other make their car better and perhaps one day be "best".

To stay on "topic", we made a self imposed rule to post a picture if we got page ownage, to show that we respect the fact that it was in the cosmetic forum and that people oblivious to what we're ranting about would have something to look at.

(lets take a little picture break... )

Some will argue that Noels (Del Sol SiR) car is H-T's best del Sol. Should the thread end there? What if someone else has a car that hasn't been posted yet? Do we make a part II thread? Jimmy's (RARE_EG2) car has been a new spark of inspiration to the community allowing other members to strive to better their efforts and improve their car. My own car is in the body shop, who is to say my own car can't become "H-T's best" - if the thread is locked, how will I, or anyone else, be able to show H-T?

But then again we said what is defined as "Best" is subjective and abstract. Obviously for each person, their own ride is best. It's the best they've got or can afford. People work hard for what they love, I myself sacrificed a whole summer working extra just to pay for my damages, another member is in Iraq getting mortared and one of his few joys when his base isn't getting shelled is coming on to H-T and talking with a few other people who own the same make of car and dreams of the time he'll have to work on his own del Sol when he gets back and he'll praise it as "best" because he, myself and all the other people on the thread love our cars. Maybe it's not perfect, maybe it isn't "JDM" or "Clean" or "RHD" but it's what we got.

As for post-whoring, I think there isn't a member on H-T who's wanted to comment on something, but was too tired from work to be more "constructive" and wanted to express himself with a "". Furthermore, it's a pretty hypocritical comment coming from people - now I'm not saying names - who are in the 10,000 mark.

Coming to a Gestalt, I'd just like to say that it's unfair to dismantle a thread cause it was "off topic" as so stated by not just a mod, but others as well. For those who participated in the thread will agree that it has been nothing but absolutely productive in many aspects to all of us and to the builds of our cars and achieving the BEST.

p.s. please forgive any grammar or spelling mistakes.
p.s.s. please forgive the length... here are some pictures for those who are too lazy to read.
One word...Brilliant! I am thinking of switching my major to psychology too.

I would put that quote in my sig...but somehow I believe that it is a tad bit too long.

To keep it related to the thread:

Now Jimmy can always be in my car lol

Sorry to hear about people getting bammed and post counts reduced, that doesn't sound on

Just noticed I've been quoted in sasha sig hehe

There is honestly no other thread on H-T like this one (and especially the one that was locked), where no matter what condition your car is in, or where your at with it, there's no hate and only help and encouragement from other members. We all nearly know each other on a first name basis and we always stand up for each other and watch each others back. I dont need or want "mad jdm props" or "thumbsup" etc, Maybe I'm not even here to find out who actually owns "H-T's best DelSol", The main drawcard about this thread is the likeminded people with the same car, the technical help, and the awesome friendships I've made.
That's why i love this place.

So a little bit of off topic banter every now and again? Seriously now, compared to the rest of Honda-tech threads, if that's the worst thing about the Del sol thread, then effectively we are only breaking one rule, and a minor one at that. Is it really that bad?

Regards
Neil

I have an idea. In reguards to what Berman just said, why dont we get more aquinted with eachother. I know a good number of the solers seem to be in cali and actually hang out and know eachother outside of honda-tech. I think it would be cool if we could all get to know eachother a little better. I know it seems elementry, but to be a 'community' like mentioned before it might be a good idea. Maybe list where you live what ya do what some of your other hobbies are (other then cars) etc. I dunno, just a thought.

Great idea! Hi, my name is Ian Skeans and I'm a Sol-aholic. I work for a conversion van company and run a material press from 7-5, 5 days a week. I'm 21 and married(don't laugh, I'm serious) and play alot of music in my freetime. I'm also becoming a bit of an aquarium nerd, haha. And when I'm not driving my real car I play way too many driving simulation games. Thats a rough summary. Next!</TD></TR></TABLE>

Good start Ian. And I will either send you a PM or hit you up on myspace about the shirt thing.

My name is Hunter. I live in NC. I am a car *****. I have had 6 cars and Im only 19. And YES, I have paid for them all myself by working hard at evey job I have had. I am on my 2nd sol, and I believe this one is a keeper! I work full time right now at Honda as a mechanic and in the parts department (Discounts rock) I love music and sports. I played college football until I got hurt and couldnt play 100% anymore. Now my devotion is to my car haha. If ya wanna know anything else, just ask. Id like to get to know eveyone better, and maybe like Ian said, and find a way to one day get as many of together as we can.
