make sure its the B17, the block has a serial number that corresponds to the vin in some way I am told. That may take some searching. The tranny has a bar code decal on it with a number as well. It is hard to tell if the motors without vin plates are original, just search around near the mounts and see if you see any marks where the motor was pulled out or put in. See if there are any marks on the frame near the crank where it could have hit if the motor was pulled. Thats about all the advice I can give.

I don think the VIN and the serial numbers on the block or tranny are related. I'm like 90% sure. I know my original LS block and tranny had no corresponding numbers or anything to the VIN.
What does it matter really if they aren't the original? its still a b17 and a ys1 short gear.

its not the originality that im concerned about, i want to make sure its legit.
