You need this stuff to fix it the right way plus automotive primer and different grits of wet and dry sandpaper or a Dual action sander if you have access to one

So I'm trying to decide what to do with my car ya'll.
It's either boost or N/A, either way I can get parts at close to cost.

Turbo will not be built, should put out decent power.
N/A less power, most likely better for a DD.

My only concern is the motor in my car is questionable. I don't know how well it's been treated before me.

DA Squad, help me make up my mind.

what do you plan on doing? GSR, b16, or LS if you got a LS i would spend some money on rebuilding your lower end with some Scat rods and JE pistons and put some stronger valves and retainers and dual valve springs and run like 7lbs of boost and get a decent size turbo and if you could stay out of boost you would still get nice gasmileage i plan on building a LS-t for a 4door once i get my wife a car lol

I've got a B16 already. Car is a GS-R without the motor.

I just want a 'fast' (that's a subjective word imo) DD. I always want something that I'm not going to have to worry about.
I'd also really like to have a new motor, ya know ZERO mileage on it and then I'd know how it was treated.

build a 1.8 liter block on the side and you will have a zero mile motor. how many miles are on the b16?

i see you have a b16. i had all motor setup and now i got boost(this is one hell of a BUG) and if i had your car i would say boost. the first thing i would do is to compression test, if it looks good then it good to go. i wouldn't run a over the edge turbo setup if you know what i mean...

Another unknown. Car has 230k kilometers on it, engine I have no clue.

I have thought of building a B20VTEC or LSVTEC, good friend of mine has built many a motor. Currently he's working on a 4.6L I6 stroker for his AMC.
Plus being able to get good prices on parts makes it that much more enticing.

well my next question would be what are you going to use the car for? just a DD? auto-x/road racing? or drag racing?

DD, more Drag then anything, always wanted a 'fast' car.
I'm sure I'll get into a bit of circuit once and a while.

I already ready know how I want to build it but I just need to figure out what to do lol.

well for dd and drag I would say b18/b20 bottom or freshin up you b16 and then boost it. But daily and drag you want torque and B16's lack that.. now I know people will disagree but for dd/drag I would stay all motor or a low (ie;5-7 pounds) boosted set up and it should keep you happy. if that even makes any sense... lol

i second that fact of b16s having no torque, but one with rods, pistons, headgasket and turbo runs damn good. if i were you, i'd just rebuild the bottom end with forged rods and pistons, new bearings and gaskets, get a cometic head gasket and then run 12 pounds or so with a decent turbo setup and you'll be more than happy

from being a n/a guy ill tell you, your never gonna get enough power outta all motor unless your prepaired to spend lots of money

go boost if you dont wanna spend alot, cause you can boost a stock motor and be around what you can get n/a

The other issue is the car is my DD so I can't really haul the motor out to rebuild it.

I'm actually looking for a block now, we'll see what happens.

but have you ever heard the sound of vtec popping right before the waste gate opens up and you get thrown in the back of your seat and then you hear the blow off valve? sounds sick as hell!

being a dd its def. worth finding another block and building it on the side, thats what im doin right now. and you really dont have to do anything to the head for boost. especially if you're not lookin for crazy power. all you need is a good bottom end and a PROPER tune and you'll be fine
