I'm sure we've all read Joey's thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=841443 But what would happen if you disabled, or not connected, or fooled the AFC's ability to "correct" ignition timing. Please correct me if I'm completly wrong, or give your additional input.

I thought the Honda ECU was the one "correcting" ignition timing?

you probably don't quite get how it works i think. ALL that is can do (excluding vtec garbage) is change the signal voltage the MAP sensor sends to the ECU at different rpm and load points. that's it.

The VFAC does nothing to the timing of your engine directly. It only modifies the voltage your ECU sees from the MAP sensor to control fuel. The unwanted ignition advance explained in J.Davis post is caused by VFAC tricking the ECU that it is in vacuum when it really is not. So basically you end up running too much ignition during your boost event.

When you give the AFC a percentage change you want it to do you have to use the fuel and timing value that you get at that point. So if you're telling it that you are in vacuum when you are actually in boost your going to be running a value meant for vacuum for fuel (which you compensate by using much larger injectors) and an advanced timing value that was also meant for that same vacuum point. There is no easy solution, you really get out of it what you put into it. If you want to run just an AFC and a device to retard igntion timing your tuning capabilites are going to be so in-precise. If you put the extra effort into it to learn how to tune and how to use a program like uberdata, or turboedit the scope of how precise you can be in tuning improves dramaticlly.

If you are talking about running a program like uberdata with the VAFC you can. In my car I started with the AFC Hack and switched over to uberdata. The VAFC wiring has not changed at all. I still use it for a peak/hold boost and rpm gauge. All values on it are set to zero except VTEC activation which you change to where you set your VTEC activation in uberdata.
