Default Question regarding Home Depot MBC

I was just wondering how many people actually trust and use these things?

I have mine....its held up at 10psi for quite some time now, never spiked once

Been running one for two years. I recently had some boost creep issues (set at 10psi, but going up to 12-13ish at the top of 3rd) and took it apart. It seems that the spring I used wasn't zinc-plated, stainless, etc. which caused it to corrode and changed the spring rate or consistency. Other than that, it's worked like a champ. I've also put them on Toyotas and DSMs with positive results. The only trick is to experiment carefully!

^^ looks just like mine. I ordered a generic one off of ebay for 20 bucks. Put that one in there, and it started leaking boost. I put my home made one back in there and it holds better lol

Bought one from Ebay for $12 shipped! Works like a charm!

I rather spend $12 for something that i know works! then to hack up my own.. -=P Cmon, its only $12! Be cheap, but dont be VERy cheap on it!

i've been running a bleeder style mbc i made for over 27k miles. no issues here.

I built mine for $6 at homedepot.. It uses a needle valve to bleed boost. Works great and I've never had a problem with it.

You can get a fairly heavy duty boost controller for $30 or under, why risk your engine ? Ghettoing things isn't always the best way....

yeah this is true, you just have to make sure everything is right before you slap it on, dont cut corners

these kinda of mbc are known to controll boost better then majority of the boost controller market. i haven't ever experienced any boost issues with this and it holds boost solid all the way to red-line. cheap and effective.

The xs controller does the same thing as mine, it just looks pretty and costs $79.. Why spend the extra money if you don't have to? There is nothing to fail in my setup, its just a little needle valve.

Homeboy Depot boost controllers aren't ghettoing things, they are just anti-bling industrial looking units. In the trailerpark, we call it John Deere Spec.

Ball-spring type units work very, very well, and are more consistent than $500 AVC-R that have to be kicked everytime there is a fluctuation in ambient temperature or barometric pressure.

I have 94goldjungsr's old one, the spring in it was a tad stiff - spring pressure in these is very important! - so it would either be factory wastegate setting or 17 psi, on my friend's Talon, with a 1/16th of a turn. Swapped out the spring and now she's good for a turn and a half to hit 17 psi. Good stuff.

the one i bought from home depot was a air compressor regulator, you can find it where they sell the air hose fittings, looks like a HKS but not chrome its black and has a green top it even has a lock held 30 psi no problem

Built mine home depot style too... pen spring + ball bearing. Never spikes, no complaints. 25k miles!

Bike shops will usually hook you up with a ball bearing for free..

I've been running my MBC for about 2500km.. no problems yet, i've seen it creep once from 6lbs to 7lbs... Other then that, no complaints.

Why would someone build cool stuff? When a sponsor will give you crap for free.
