would cams be worth my time?
with the onslaught of the new cam bandwagon.....it's got my interest peaked. in my case i'll be running a stock sleeved LS block with forged internals, stock b16 head with valvetrain, junk2 or blox mani (haven't decided yet), stock b16 throttle body, 2.5" i/c pipe, big fmic, 60-1 with s-cover, 3.5" exhaust/downpipe, merge manfiold, and pump gas.
engine won't see race gas....but MIGHT see soem water injection. hp goal is 350ish, maybe 400whp on pump....just depends on how everything turns out, ya know
so....would there be any point in getting cams? whether mild n/a cams, itr/ctr, or mazworks? would i just be wasting money? if/when i crack a sleeve or whatever...i'll prob end up sleeving and going bigger....but, that'll be a GOOD while (i.e...year..2 years....however long i can keep this one running)

No way....you'll reach pump gas limits way before 'needing' cams. Cams will give a better powerband and more top end but that b16 head is just fine.
I've got an LS head/block and will need a cam to rev past 7k and on to 8.5k so I can make good power on a stock LS head. I'll be going to 300wtrq (my limit on pump gas), but since you have a good head already IMO it's just a waste....turn up the boost

i'm just looking for any kind of boost in power from anywhere EXCEPT boost. i'd like to run as low of boost as possible to reach my goal. i mean, if i can get 25whp or so from a cam swap....i think it'd be worth my time. making 300ish on say...12psi compared to 325whp on 12psi...i'd be much happier.
oh, and nix the 3.5" exhaust...prob just do a 3" for now...i'm going the cheap route...mig welded aluminized stuff, haha. save the 3.5" for ss and tig, later

That is exactly what I want to do! Good luck!

there's a big difference between GSR and ITR.....but b16 and GSR are VERY similar...so why would you suggest GSR cams when it's the same lift with 2 degrees more duration?
but...i'm thinkinga bout stuff liek blox b's or blox a's or skunk2 1/2's or the new mazwork cams.....
anyone actually running any of these in a setup similar to what i'm doing?

I'd say 35 ft-lbs in the mid range is pretty significant.

Yeah man, B16 cams compared to GSR cams are about as gay as my Z6 cams. Def swap to some GSR's or if you can ITR/CTR cams. Plenty of people are making 500+whp on stock GSR/ITR/CTR cams.

Re: (boosted94cx)
that really depends on you and how much you want to spend. People have also seen great gains going from gsr to ITR cams. In the mid range and on the top end. Closer to 40-50 hp. If that worth it to you for around 300 bucks and some wrench time, then thats your decision. No one can really tell you what is going to be worth to you, b/c everyone has a different budget and way to go.
If you wanna make less than 400 whp and are on a budget, I wouldnt bother with anything but gsr cams.

Re: (boosted94cx)
then for 300 bucks for itr cams I would do it. But for your goals I wouldnt really choose anything above that. If you are gonna go with either full race or some other hardcore cam you will really need to upgrade the valvetrain to a very stiff spring rate and will probably need to port your head to get max gains from those cams.

i'll be doing valvetrain either way........just haven't decided what brand yet
