Default will plastic IC piping work?

This guy who does custom welding wanted like 700 bucks to make me ic piping. Im broke and on a college budget. so i went to home depot and picked up some real thick pvc piping elbows and rubber couplers. I drove it around a little but not for more than 20 min. I was just wondering what you thought for a temporary solution. Will it work or did I waste 20 bucks.

i used that heavy duty pvc cement and you couldn't get those pieces apart with a sledge hammer.

I mean its for plumbing in a house so its meant to hold some pressure and im only boosting 8 lbs tops.

Anyone know what household pvc is rated as far as heat and pressure?

I bet itll work, ive used some big rubber elbows before at 14 psi, and it worked for a year before i went to a different setup.

the inside of the pipes are pretty smooth so its probably not slowing air too much and if you think about it you can pour boiling water down your drain of your sink right? so they can hold some heat.

Whoa...looks like that worked pretty nice!

And no way will they blow apart if you use the glue and primer!

in that case, i think it will work fine. as long as you dont push any more than 8psi, and have used enough cement on the piping you'll be good. although i would strongly suggest upgrading down the road.

You got a point there...I think you will be fine, but put so nice pipping on the to-do-list.

How much does indoor plumbing hold? Its gotta be at least 40psi. And if it can hold water than why not air!

What about the heat tho? What kind of temps are we talking about from compressed air from a turbo?

LOL!!! that **** will not work. Trust me, i know. DO you know how hot the air gets coming from the turbo? I believe it can get as hot as 150-200F. It's hot, and it will melt/deriorate the plastic piping. IT wasn't meant to hold up to heat. That **** will melt the first time you boost. If you dont' believe me, try it and find out.

Actually, boiling water at 212 degrees is MUCH hotter than 130 degree air. My only concern would be those Home Depot couplers. I've used them before in my Civic and they held up to 12psi, but the coupler that comes right off the turbo MUST be a high-temp silicone type and not the rubber Home Depot ones. I blew/shredded like 5 of them before I got the hint

actually i did try it.
I drove it ont the highway for a few exits and really slammed on it getting up to speed.
I drove some back roads for about 20 min.
the engine was definetly heated up and the incoming side was warm but not hot and after the ic was like ice cold.
It seemed to hold up fine

My buddy used this on his SR20DET. It worked good but he didn't clean and glue the PVC properly and they were leaking pretty bad after a week or 2.

u think the rubber couplers will explode????
there like a quarter inch thick rubber.
i think there better than the ones that came with the greddy kit
there for plumbing
i think they were next to the toilet stuff. hahaha

And you left the barcodes on. I ******* love it lol. I got some extra peices of aluminum ic piping from my greddy kit. I dunno if you can use them or not but I'll give them to you for like 5 bucks for the shipping.
