i think most mfg usually recommends 12-18" from the turbine outlet. i always run them right after the first 90 off the turbo and have never had a problem.

PLX recommends at least 24" and that is where ive had mine placed for over a year now with no problems.. and i run race gas full time..

mine is a whole 6 inches away here is the idea, at least this is what my tuner says, the closer the better, but it wont last long...

my buddy with a 13B has his 6" away also, and you know those rotary EGT's are HOT!! he has a different tuner than me, but he said the same thing.

Also, make sure you don't place it below the midline of the pipe (i.e., sensor facing "up" towards the sky). Moisture collects near the bottom of the pipe and can kill the sensor.

12-18 inches is best and dont be cheap about the insurance of your engine buy NTK sensors and EGT sensors to keep an eye on exhaust temps. because exhaust temps will let you know how good of a job your ignition system is doing. a wideband only tells you about the fuel system

dont mean to thread jack but i see a lot of people using bosche, is that bad compared to NTK? and good point on the egt vs a/f sensors, i never thought of that...

I always put them in the stock b-series location, basically right under the axles. That is far enough away and you can mount it vertically, which is ideal.

i put mine right between the halfshaft and the firewall. i used to have it about 6-7" away from the turbo and i was toasting sensors monthly. ive had mine back a ways now with the plx for like 10k miles and no problemss

put it further away and i bet you get more out of it.

really.. there is no point in having a wideband sensor that close to the turbo.

The bosch sensor is much cheaper and easier to find than the NTK. The NTK is supposed to be more durable when using leaded/race gas, and in extreme conditions (lots of racing, high temps, etc.). If you've got a good tune and only run pump gas and have a good bung placement, the bosch will be just fine.

exactly like borat said BUT
the NTK sensor will be more accurate, last longer with or without pump gas, and it is easy to find if you have a wideband that is compatible with a NTK sensor. IMO they pay for themself in the long run because you wont need to replace it as often as a bosch. (5) $80 bosch= (1) $160-$200 NTK

The bosch is about $50 at autozone. I'm on my 3rd in the last 2.5 years. I expect this one to last much longer than the first two, since I blew those learning to tune with uberdata and crome. Now I have ectune, and my AFRs are never as crazy as with those programs. WOT and most of part throttle was fine, but startup and idle and certain situations would get them down to 9:1 for minutes at a time!
