Default Why can't you modify OBDII ECU's

I'm curious to the reason why we cannot modify an OBDII ECUs. Like the way you can user uberdata and chip an OBDII.

Is it because no one has tried messing with them, or the expense of doing so..?

So hondata has found a way to modify a KA20, which is OBDIIB or something?

can anyone explain this to me?

microprocessors own j00.

there is not an external rom expansion place.
the code is different, and hard to crack.

And why would you want to when obd1 is the answer..?

Pelegri also has his own editing software, but refuses (and rightly) to share it. He does, however, share all hardware modifications, ROM memory locations, and commented asm. Good dude

I didn't think it would happen at first, but with the recent wave of OBD2 emissions testing across the country, it looks like OBD2 chipping will be commonplace. It's the only way to have your cake and eat it, too, unless you want to swap back to stock once every two years like the KKKali Kids.

Keep in mind that RSX is different from other OBD2 Honda, technically. RSX comes with a reflashable processor and the hardware to support reflashing the embedded processor via CANbus. It's interesting to note that Federal OBD2 requirements include reflashable architecture, but aside from K-series no other Honda ECUs are compliant. I am under the ASSumption that the 99-00 Si ECU has the flash hardware + provisions, but Honduh snuck an OTP processor into the production runs at the last minute.

I remember hearing about OBD-II ECU's being modified a long time ago. Never really went to research it because the cost of the chip it self was too expensive.$200-$300 if I remember correctly.

I could be wrong but I think I remember it being setup so you don't have to solder anything, it just clips over some processor. Anyone confirm?

I had a link of a shop in Australia where they chipped OBDIIa ECU's..Apparently 96-98 are chipable but 99-00 are not. All of their chips where for 96-98 honda ecus. But let me tell you they were expensive..around 200 bucks.
