Default When To Go Forged Internals?? B18

OK. I think I have a broken ringland on one piston in my B18. This is because I'm getting a lot of blowby (smoke from valve cover), and compression test showed 90 in one cylinder. This was after my turbo install also.

I haven't pulled the motor yet, but I bought a spare short block that I wanted to rebuild so all I have to do is transfer the head (if all in good shape), and then drop in the new motor.

However, I don't know if I should go back with forged internals, or just keep it stock. I'd like to run about 250hp since it's my daily (not too crazy). I'm thinking stock rods and pistons should be OK for this, but I just want some reassurance if so.

Also, when I got for the install, I'm going to make sure that my crankcase ventilation is legit with a catch can. I'm thinking that it could be pretty poor with my current setup.

Any knowledge or advise is welcomed. This will be my first rebuild. I've got a manual and have been reading over it. I've also got a couple of contacts here that have done plenty of motor rebuilds (not necessarily Honda) that will hopefully help me out with the whole process.

250-300whp is fine for B series motors, cracked ring lands usually sound somewhat like a Subaru because it will be miss firing on that cylinder.

Yeah, it was hard to tell about the misfiring because I was running an open downpipe at the time. I haven't driven it since I noticed the smoke and low compression.

From the research about how much power can be put to a B18B, that's what I've seen too (300 and below). I figured if I kept it to about 250 with a modest tune, I should get some good life out of the setup. That's what I hope anyways!

Thanks for the post! Keep them coming! :D
