Wheel will not spin within turbine
Hey-
Recently I went to remove my drag turbo from my drag manifold. I could only reach 3 out of the 4 screws holding the turbo to the manifold, so I went to clock the turbo. I loosened 6 screws on the compressor side, and 6 screws from the turbine side.
I thought once I did this the center cartridge would move freely but I was wrong. Now my wheel will not even spin within the turbo
any advice?
Do I need to remove the nut on the end of the shaft in order to rotate the turbine?

No.
Some times the wheel in a used turbo won't spin quite as freely as in a new one, but you should be capable on turning it with your fingers.
Loosening the 6 bolts on the compressor side should allow you to rotate the compressor housing. To clock mine I had to losen all the bolts and then gently tap it with a rubber mallet to break the compressor housing free of the center section.
I would suggest making sure all 6 bolts a tight again so that the housing isn't cocked sideways and hitting the wheel. If the wheel still won't spin by finger I would be worried that you bent the shaft and you might be in for a rebuild....

thanks for the reply. I am not in need of a rebuild, this turbo has ~1000 miles on it, it spun eariler before I started this.
why the "
" face?
There are NO bolts holding the center cartridge to the turbo, in my eyes it should move freely. I dont wanna bang it too hard because I dont want to jam any of the wheels against their housings.
you suggest tightening all 6 compressor bolts, ad hitting the turbine?

if there are no bolt holding the compressor housing on then it could be slightycocked sideways and the edge of the inlet could be hitting the compressor wheel. make sure everything is on tignt then see if it will spin.
EDIT-
Well the wheel spins now
You were right the sides werent even, when I snugged it down the wheel spins freely.
However, I removed the compressor and noticed a bit of black residue. It washed off with some brake kleen but now I am worried about the seals.
Also - one of the bolts holding the hot side on doesnt have enough room to bolt on now
If I were to replace the seals wouldnt I need to remove both sides anyways?
I'll go take a picture sometime soon
