Suppose you're running a turbo kit that doesn't use an intercooler. How much is the maximum that you could safely boost on it?

Particularly on a high-compression engine I would simply not run boost without an intercooler. You're losing a lot of power and taking a lot higher risk of detonation running boost at all non-intercooled. I know there is experience out there of plenty who get away with it but I think if you've got a nice car and you want to do it right, spend the extra $500-600 and intercool the thing.

On a stock engine don't bother with anything over 5 psi non-intercooled. The more pressure you go the hotter the air charge is and the less power it makes. PV=nRT
5psi is my answer, although I have run as high as 7 psi non-ntercooled, but the intake charge temp was hot as hell.

yeah, i agree dont go over 5psi, I had an 83 volvo turbo non intercolled, from the factory it came set at 4psi on an 8.5:1 motor - after IC boost was raised to 18PSI
