What would the difference be b/w 8:1 and 9:1 pistons
Hey dudes... anyone know the difference in performace while in low rev's between the 8:1 pistons and 9:1 pistson.. i know in high boost it won't make much difference. but howwil the low rpm act ?

i run 7.5to1 in my 2000si and i cant realy tell much difrence from stock. it drives just fine. you will have no problems at all. as long as the install ing done right. I feels a tiny bit slower before vtec, but after that its all back to normal. however its nothing you can really notice

Remember a turbo works off of heat. It uses thermal dynamics which means using heat to do mechanical work. In a higher compressiom motor you will generate more heat to drive the turbo and spool it faster. With a lower compression you will have more turbo lag.
People will always say, "well why does a porshe, wrx etc have low compression?" Well remember those are OEM turboed cars that need to be made to last because they have to think about warrantys.
But an ideal CR for our cars is between 9:1-10:1 on a street car.

Art just put a spanner inthe works...then...almost chaning my mind back to 9:1...lol such a hard disicission.. and eveyone out here in aust is saying go 8:1 blah blah or lower im like get stuffed ! u guys have no idea how 2 turbo charge a honda ( eveyone in Australia )
so yeah hummm i trust this board more than i trust eveyone else in aust.. bc none of em have eva worked with a turbo honda.. esp a b16a2 turbo
anyone else got anything 2 add ?
James

do NOT go 8:1 compression.. anything under 9:1 and u will be horribly dissapointed.. here is a graph of compression ratio and the max amount of boost u can run on pump gas..
I think anything over 18 you need to use race gas
if u look at the flow maps for our cars we benifit from big turbos on low boost and we use higher then normal compression to spool them.. If we ran 8:1 compression we would have to run smaller turbo but then running more boost is like a catch 22 cause its less efficient boost... stick to 9:1

the #'s in the chart basically represent how much static compression you are going to have.. over 18 and you are going to detonate on pump gas.. Its basically telling you how much boost u can run on a certain compression ratio..
