Default what cams to use?

I am building a gsr for a turbo and am trying to figure out what cams to use. I have been told itr cams are a good all around cams for any application but also skunk2 n/a cams. This isn't a daily driver and wanting to shoot for 450hp+. This is the setup i have so far.

Brian crower dual valve springs, valves, retainers
Darton sleeves stock bore
Wiseco pistons 9:1
Eagle rods
Arp studs
Ramhorn exhaust mani
Holset turbo Hx35
stock gsr crank
cometic head gasket

based on a ramhorn and a HX35, you would be perfectly fine hitting that goal on Gsr cams...However if you were to come across some ITR/CTR cams they would be good as well...450hp is a nice goal but you WILL want more power 3 days after getting used to it...since you said this will NOT be a daily driven car, i would actually plan for more HP now and set your car up for around 600hp...

Skunk2 Pro 1 cams would work very well with what you got there. ITRs would be my next choice. GSRs will do the job. Like M3 tech said, Plan for more

The Pro 1 cams will most likely be too big for that Holset HX35 turbo.

ITR/CTR.....If youre set on Skunk2 the Tuner 1's is what you want to go with.

Like stated above though Gsr Cams will also work. It's what i use. If money wasnt a issue then Skunk2 tuner 1's for sure with upgraded Valvetrain

I went with skunk 2 tuner 1 cams on my build, they idle perfect, no cam gears needed. Your choice if you want to get them, some will say yes some will say no. All cars are different so you may or may not make more power if you degree them. Over all great cams to use and V-tec engages like no other !!!

Like everyone else has stated I would stick with what you have because it should get you to the 450hp mark with no problems. However like most people including myself you get used to the power pretty quickly. So if this happens with you down the road and you want more power, changing the cams would be my next step. It is heavily documented on this forum that upgrading from say gsr cams to itr/ctr cams can net considerable gains in hp. I would consider the itr/ctr cam swap a mild upgrade depending on setup and tune. Since you have upgraded valve train you could also consider the blox type b or skunk2 tuner 1's or 2's, as they have netted even higher gains than the ctr/itr cams depending on setup and tune. I would say the ultimate cams to consider would be the skunk 2 pro 1's, as they have netted over 100hp depending on setup and tune. So there you go, your gsr cams will get you to your goal of 450 but if you just so happen to want more power take your pick from mild to wild and go for it. Also an important note some people have been seeing considerable gains in hp at the same if not lower boost pressure = more reliable setup. Important Note: make sure that the upgraded valve train that you have has enough seat pressure to support any aftermarket cams that you may pick. Just my two cents.

Thanks for information it has been helpful. I know that i will probably want more power in the future and will have to upgrade my injectors and turbo. I need to go ahead and plan ahead, and get some cams for when i do.

Honestly gsr cams for your goals would be fine to use.

SRDFTITAN,
Just cause the cams make more power per boost doesnt mean its more relaible set-up, maybe more efficent. If youre trying to squeeze all the power out of youre set-up then Yea cams will help. Gsr cams will work fine for 450whp, and fine above that. If anything Gsr cams will make it more reliable as its going to put alot less strain on the valvetrain. CTR are going to be the best bet for performance while keeping longevity/reliablity in mind(skunk2 tuner 1s are more aggressive but still MUCH less the the pro1s) If you get to 450whp and want more power its probably going to be a better option too upgrade youre turbo. Again this depends on his current turbo (since it was not mentioned) and his goals/budget.

So you wouldn't agree that by being able to make the same power at 3-5 psi less which would decrease your cylinder pressures wouldn't make it more reliable? Your are correct by adding cams and more importantly having the right combination of parts working together= more efficient which = more power. Hey if my goal is 450hp and I had a choice of either getting it with 15psi or 20psi, I'll take 15 any day. Theoretically it "should" last longer only because of lowered cylinder pressures. Op make sure you do your own research, don't just take somebodies word for it (including mine). And kbouchard1092 not trying to start a panty war just trying to make sure we're on the same page thats all, I'm not in to keyboard fighting lol! I do agree with everything else you said though about the valve train. Good luck Op!!
