Has anybody have experience welding the tops of GE sleeves, between the sleeves at the point they meet. I have noticed on few blocks I have built ,some of them have gaps bigger than others. So if I could run a small weld then deck the block for better gasket sealing.

then you have to worry about uneven surfaces and the gasket not sealing totally, and if you get too close to the aluminum, you can even warp it.

I'm meaning just the short piece inbetween the cylinders, Not near the alluminum.
Then I would re-surface the block to make it even.

I would never recommend welding on the sleeves as they are heat treated to the optimal tensile strength and welding can anneal ( soften ) the sleeve material. Don't worry, slap it together and run the thing. You have great success. I have over a dozen guys running 86 and 87mm b-series blocks from us that never have any problems and they are daily driven!!!!! ( I do not recommend this, but these customers insisted! )

i would just like some quick words of reassurance please... i have a 99si b16 turbo... i had a GE blockguard put in but it would not fit with ease,,, after it was put together it began to smoke... taking it apart again it turned out that cylinder number 4 was out of round... so the block was sent of to GE to be sleeved... it looks just like the pics MAXIM put up in another thread except mine is not O-ringed it is DECKED... and the view from the bottom looks like the sleeves sit on the block... so does that mean they cannot sink then? i just got it back this past month (end of june) it is running beautifully and have been breaking it in at nearly 700 miles so far... the other guy said he had it done a year ago so has the process changed or anything? or since the way they are sitting they are now unsinkable? i want to be sure theres nothing to worry about before it gets dynoed... thanks.

I think you are referring to the pics I posted up in the other thread.

I'm also wondering the same thing. What makes the new technique unsinkable? Not doubting your shops work Vince, I just wanted to rest assured that my block is going to ok on that end.
