Under what conditions do sleeves fail/drop?

drop- installer error.

 

I completely agree with Arturbo but I have another theory. I was thinking that all this leeve droping started when people started step decking their blocks. For those who don't know, step decking is raising the sleeves a few thousanths above the deck so when the head is instaled it promotes better gasket seal around the cylinders. I was wondering if when doing this is gradually stretches the block or forces the sleeves down into the block where it normally wouldn't go if the block wasn't step decked. There is no downward force on the sleeves other than the pressure exerted by the head. Maybe Vince or others could come forward and tell us whether the blocks they have seen with dropped sleeves had the sleeves step decked? Just my .02 though.

I have herd, that after the sleeves are pressed into the block, and it is assembled and heated up the sleeves can sink farther into the block because sometimes they are not able to press them flush against the bottom of the block??
