Default WHich way round?

This may seem like a stupid question but ive just hung my pistons on my new rods and then thought does it matter which way round they go? I did a search and found that you should put the little cut out for the bearing location (tang) on the exhaust side on the piston. Is this the case or does it not matter?

Tangs on the rods on the exhaust side. Also larger valve reliefs for the pistons need to be on the intake side.

thanks for the reply, its all sorted and the pistons, rods and crank are all in and bolted up. Luckily i had put the pistons the right way on the rods first time.
