I am switching my GF's set-up from the traditional fmic set-up to a air/liquid barrel ic from pwr, as well as a pwr heat exchanger with a 2 gallon sheet metal resevior and water pump. I am going to directly compare IAT between my car and my GF's same day, same conditions. I can almost guarantee with the water pump on all the time, with a front mount fan acting as a "pusher" on the heat exchanger IAT's will the same or lower on the air/liquid set-up especially when the vechicle is moving dynamically rather than statically (idle conditions).

I would be more than willing to bet that it will be colder w/ no ice in it, just ambient temperature water. Good luck on the setup! keep us informed w/ some pics. I'm working on a digital Intake air temperature gauge right now to be mounted at my manifold so we'll see how it does compared to outside air temperature.

it's almost a better setup then. it's just more parts, but you don't have to worry about detonation from hot ambient air....because the temperature would pretty much stay the same all the time...is my logic correct?

I'd have to agree with you. the water temperature shouldn't be as subject to change as the air around you.

How do you figure? Ambient temp is all relevant. Do you expect the water to be cooler than the air around you?

only if it has ice in it.

exactly. Without ice, the water temp will change just as air temp does.

why is a swiming pool only 80 degree's when its 100degree's outside?

Because that is hundreds of gallons and it gets cold out at night. If the coolest it got was 100 degree than the pool would be alteast that warm.. Plus your running the water through a heat exhanger.. it will do its best to bring the water either down to or up to ambient.

to run the w/a intercooler, you would have to use ice,for it to do any good, thats only common sense i would think.water will only be as cold as its surroundings.

my suggestion would be to use a insulated cooler of some sort, ice stays frozen for days in a cooler.id love to find a 1 gallon insulated aluminum tank.

Water conducts heat much better than air.. its pretty easy for a water to air cooler of proper size to get you very close to ambient air temps.. Its not common to find air to air that will do the same thing.

Water needs to have air exposure in order to be heated up, 1000 gallons in a pool isnt going to heat anywhere near as fast as a 1-2 gallon resevior tank in a car. Water is a poor conductor, but a great heat conductor in terms of heat transfer. The ambient temperature plays a major role, but also the temperature under the hood of the car. The only reason i am switching over to a air/liquid set-up is to make the car super stealth. The water will get heated up, but with a heat exchanger with pusher fan, and 2 gallon resevior with a water pump I hope to achieve ambient temperatures. I will have IAT sensors mounted before and after the barrel core to monitor temperatures, and develop a in cabin LCD to display the corresponding resistence/temperature values. The only importance to me is that the intake temps are getting extremely hot, or other measures will have to be taken to cool down the charge.

what would be the ideal heat exchager? Radiator, oil cooler, etc...??? Iv been thinking about a modified EG A/C heat exchanger...it would fit beside my radiator perfect, and is fairly good sized. All I would have to do is braze a couple AN aluminum fittings onto it, ad a nice slimline pusher fan to the front of it, and go from there...what do you guys think?

I am buying the pwr heat exchanger, which is basically a miniature pwr radiator. For a heat exchanger pretty much any radiator type core will work the best, the oil cooler cores are meant for higher viscous fluids than water so the cooling capability is going to be different. The stock a/c exchanger would work very nicely, if i wasnt going for a super finished looked to the car i would probably do the samething. Most importantly mount a pusher fan on the front of the core. If you want the entire system to be effective you have to wire up a circuit that keeps both the water pump and pusher fans going all the time to circulate the water.

Thanks for the info!!! I have read else where the same thing about the oil coolers...

In the future I plan on running 2 C & R radiators side by side...one for engine cooling, the other my intercooler system. Both will have to be modified for what I have planned, but is should work out nicely!

I ran my setup 32 times in 2 hours on the dyno, and the water was tap water warm(less than 90* on an 80* day) when we dumped ice in it for the "money run".

I'd say my li'l 4 pass heat exchanger was working pretty well, myself.

There was maybe 2 minutes between runs for tuning, and to let the engine cool down. It was overheating because I was running with a bum thermostat.

Boosted Hybrid, did you ever finish the water to air setup in your GF's car? If so, how was the tempratures compared to your air to air setup? I'm really considering the water to air setup for the stealth appearance, as I don't wan't any extra attention to my car. Thanks.

Reservoir in the fenderwell, heat exchanger up front, Jabsco pump on the frame rail under the intercooler, mounted up where the airbox and battery was. Easy Peasy. Daily driven. One leak in 3 years because I dropped the front of the car off the ramps when towing it. Oops.

</TD></TR></TABLE>please let me know what exchanger that is the deminsions and part num and price please
