Default Wategate, and exhast return ?'s

Basicly, on a external wastegate setup.. whats the negitives of not tapping the exhaust into the down pipe?

a loud as exh leak? since its soo close to the manifold, flames? unbareable heat?

is it something that is do'able? always T in your exh.? what do you guys think?

Are you talking about the dump tube off the WG?

I think the only downside of not running your dump tube into your exhaust is......wait THERE ISNT ONE! It doesnt sound like a leak at all. Just a loud whoosh from full boost to redline.

The only downside to NOT running a dump tube whatsoever is melting stuff in the way of the exhaust gas [if there is anything]. Just make sure all hoses are not in front of the WG port.

just make sure the wastegate discharge port is not pointing toward or in close proximity to anything that can melt or catch fire.

a cheap dump tube to point it to the ground is as far as I would go.

ok.. so somehow.. the discharge of the WG isnt' all that loud? a pipe aim'ing it downwards would be fine? you dont' HAVE to tap it inot the exhaust steam?

i just didnt' want it to be loud as all hell. like an exhaust leak.

Most people don't bother recirculating the WG dump. Most people either run open wastegate or a wategate with a dump tube [just pointing toward the ground].

Downsides are more of an opinion issue....IMO the downsides to an open dump tube is:
~the dang dirty engine bay
~the exhaust smell after a short drive
~the increase in exhaust volume when the WG is open
I perticularly do not like open dumps on my car especially if it's a street car. But if you plan to route back to the exhaust merge the dump into the downpipe at least 18"-20" behind the turbine outlet. Good luck

hrmm... well.. maybe i'll just make a small dump tube and locate it somewhere close to the oil pan.. that way almost all of it would be out of the engine bay.
