I keep hearing people say stuff about the wastegate making a noise, well I don't hear it! Maybe I just tune it out, but I'm pretty sure I would hear the wastegate if it sounds like running just off of the downpipe (that's what I was told it sounds like) Does that mean I hooked it up wrong, I'm running about 6.5 psi if that makes any difference (.45 tial wastegate)

 

Hmmm no wastegate noise on my car at 8 ish PSI, just a nice clean strong running engine... All I can hear is muffled exhaust and turbo noises.

 

Are you guys running open or closed loop? On my drag 3 kit (open) its very loud...you really hear it when you hit boost. Kinda like a whooshin' sound.

 

I'm running open loop. So is it a woosh that I can maybe be thinking is my turbo spooling, or is it like a whole different woosh? Why did I hear that it was like running an open exhaust? I'm starting to be confused.

 

My wastegate exhaust enters my downpipe about 3-4" downstream from the turbo. it mixes, and goes through the exhaust. GReddy's quiet to begin with, anyway.

My kit is open loop and it screams bloody murder.. it's pretty damn loud!

 

mine is real ******* loud....like a V8 on crack...

 

Stupid Loud..but i think ill live with the extra noise cause by the open wastegate,i think plumbing it back might effect performance of wastegate

 

are you sure you're not mistaking that whooosh for the BOV?

 

mine is obnoxiously loud but I like it

If u r not hearing the wastegate u may have something wrong with your car.. At first my wastegate wasnt opening because I had a boost leak from my BOV and my BOV was not closing because I had a vacum line not hooked up right.. So have someone look over your install.. Do u have a boost gauge?

 

wastegates that enter the exhaust within 12" of the downpipe flange can cause a restrictiction of flow. Optimum would be about 18" downstream to insure that there will not be any problems.

 

when i'm at high boost, it's definitely loud... CRAZY loud. and it's open loop deltagate.

So this could be the result of a boost leak? I'm pretty sure I have a leak in one of the "intercooler" pipes. The problem is that I was missing one of my intercooler pipes from my kit (which I'm waiting on) and I used some 4 dollar flex pipe in place of it, I'm pretty sure that it's leaking. Could this be my problem? Also, when my car reaches around 7400 rpms, it feels like my car has reached it's limits, like it wants to go to 8 grand, but someone is holding on to it's foot, could this be a result of my 60mm piping exhaust? Or something else?

The wastegate makes a very distinct "roaring" sound when it is fully opened while you are WOT. Very loud...you can't miss it.

 

My car makes this noise when I hit 6.5 psi of boost. I just thought it was the exhaust repair kit i used for the downpipe. Its like a roaring/rattling sound. Soo is that the sound of the wastegate? ... haha, i always thought it was the flex pipe....like air flowing through the flexes making nasty *** sounds.....

Seriously, I don't hear mine. I hit .5 bar and it sits there according to my boost gauge... It goes nicely, I don't feel any kind of loss in power at full boost... it's nice actually. I'll have to get the tranny back in it, and I'll see if I can get some recordings of my car's sounds...

 

really dont worry, as long as you maintain your desired boost level, you know its working, I cant hear my wastegate over the other noises my turbo sounds like a friggen freight train or an air raid siren, and if the dp points down thats where the sound goes, it really just means that you have a decent ex Manifold that properly cancels out each cylinder pulse.

sir kid i dont think that you are supposed to hear yours because your exhaust gas that is coming out of your wastegate are going back into your exhaust pipes then through your muffler. the reason that every one else hears theirs is that their wastegates are venting exhaust gases into the atmosphere, unmuffled, therefore when their wastegates open it sounds similar to an open header because the wastegate exhaust gas is unmuffled, unlike yours that goes through your muffler.

 

DAMN I could NOT have an open wastegate.. how do you people get away with it! I'd be arrested for running open exhaust I get on my car so much!

I just love driving fast, and it's all I can do to get 20-25 mpg out of my car after the turbo install I'll be LUCKY to get high teens!
