Im trying to understand how a wastegate works and how to hook it up so that I can just start up my car. My wastegate dump tube isnt done yet, but I wanna see if this car is starting, and I dont wanna blow exhaust gases all in my engine bay.

Its a tial wastegate and from watching the diagram, If I leave both ports open, the valve should be closed?

Is a wastegates valve fully seal when closed?

Yes, the wastegate valve should be fully sealed when closed so you should be able to hook it up to perform a startup.

if you can also hook up the compressor port then it will give you spring pressure, amazing how fast a car can build up boost.

as mentioned above, the wastegate will stay closed if no lines are hook-up. for start-up this is ok but do not drive the car like this. it will overboost. also, you could hook-up the pressure source to the side port and it will still stay closed until the spring pressure is acheived. the top port is used for electronic boost controllers and has no real effect on how the wg opens if you are not using an ebc. leave it open though, never cap it off.

2 more questions please.

Im running neptune and using PWM with a MAC Solenoid. Below is how I have it hooked up.



First question - If I start the car up like this, the wastegate should still stay closed at idle because I believe the MAC Solenoids are Normally Open? Correct?

Second Question - If the solenoid has no power to it in this configuration, the car should only see maximum spring boost pressure right? Unless of mechanical issues like too small a wastegate...

So hooked up in this configuration and with no power to the solenoid, I should be seeing spring pressure correct?

Yes but as stated before the wg will not open under vacuum at idle if this is all your trying to accomplish for now

Well yes. I did get the car started and now I just have to get my exhaust/wastegate piping done so I can continue and tune the car. Was just wondering if I had to change anything to tune off the wastegate spring. Thanks guys.
