building boost

I am currently running a turbosmart 48mm wg. I have two springs in the wastegate giving me a low boost of 18psi. My high boost is 26psi. I am now retuning. The question I have is will I be able to take the turbo up to 40psi with the 18psi springs in the wastegate? Or will I have to upgrade to 20 psi or greater? I am using an AEM 5 bar map sensor with hondata s200. I dont want to come out the hole with 20+ psi, that's why I want to know if there is anyway I can keep my 18psi springs and still boost up to 40 psi.Thanks for the input.

i've been told that its all in the boost controller. if u have a nice quality one it'll be alright but if u have a shitty homemade one or something, u'll start having boost problems

The general word of advise for wastegate springs is that it should be half of your high boost. So I run between 16-20psi on my set-up, and I have a 9-11lbs spring. So your ~18lbs spring is perfect to run 40psi on your current boost controller, but I do prefer an electronic boost controller. But again your set-up will work just fine the way you have it!

thanks. i just want to make sure i will be able to take it to 40psi if the need arises. i am paying for dyno time and i don't wanna get stuck because of boost creep etc.

again, more speculation....but I have heard that most springs will handle about 3 times the pressure before they start failing/giving issues.

18*3=54psi so you should be ok.

Although, I do have a 5psi spring and I rock it up to 24psi!!
