Default Wastegate dismantling

I want to replace the 9 lb spring in my wastegate with a 5 lb one.

How hard is it to take apart the wastegate? Is it possible to run without a spring and just controll the boost with a boost controller?

Thanks,
Dave

without a spring, you probably won't even see boost

Turbonetics deltagate.

My thinking is running without a spring but controlling the boost with a boost controller. Since the boost controller can only regulate boost above the spring rate, having a zero rate would allow you to control boost from 0 LBS to whatever you want, right?

I'm kicking in the dark here, let me know if this makes sense.

Is it hard to dismantle?

If you run with no spring you are going to tear the diaphram in the wastegate since there will be nothing limiting its travel. Also you wont see any boost at all due to the fact that you wont have any way of closing the wastegate. That is what the spring is there for.

I always though boost controllers only allowed you to adjust the boost within the range of the wastegate....are you telling me that if I have a 9lb spring..on my wastegate....that i could boost to 15psi...using a boost contoller? That doesnt make sense.

boost controllers can only INCREASE boost above what the spring is rated at, right?
