Default wastegate and boost controller help

Can you use boost controllers on internal wastegates? If so, could the internal wastegate hold up to 10 psi without leaking until it is time for it to open? Will it be able to redirect the exhaust fast enough?

Yeah no problem, same as an external wategate really in terms of function

used a Greddy Profec B Boost Controller on my old setup which was the Greddy TD05-18G turbo with internal wastegate and I was able to control up to 13psi...the wastegate really wouldn't go any higher over that...

So external wastegates are really only needed in high horsepower applications? Another question I have is how do you install mechanical boost controllers on internal wastegates?

Most the Cars over here run internal wastegates, its simply easier to pakage in the engine bay.

You need a actuator, this has a spring in of whatever rating and the chamber where the spring is housed has a vac line, say you had a 7lb spring then when you get 7psi of boost the actutor spring will be squashed and the actutor diagram/rod assembly move, as there connected to the swing valve wastegate the exhaust flow through the turbine can be regulated.

Bigger wastegates arn't really needed on big horsepower TBH. The turbine has to work harder on high horsepower engines so the amount of gas needed to be diverted around the turbine to regulate boost is less than the same setup at a lower boost pressure.

The wastegate would be closed though, so doesn't matter how big it is while the turbo spools up. Maybe the actutor needed some preload on it or the turbine housing was cracked so the wastegate was leaking and reducing the energy at the turbine
