(other than seeing how much power you are making).
I figure if I am tuning a street car, I should tune for safety, and not necessarily power. Thus tuning for a 12:1 a/f ratio on a wideband, is a better idea than going to the dyno and trying to make the most power, which is not always the safest?

Goto a dyno that has wideband and tune for both, acutally you'd probably just tune for A/F because you'll get the most HP that way.

i could see tuning accurately with a wideband O2 without a dyno, if you know someone who will tune it for you. but going to the dyno to see what power it's making along with the A/F ratio will be the best way overall. also while you're at the dyno you can adjust your cam settings for overlap and the most power etc.

I would like to know the answer to this as well, I will be tuning my car next week on the street with a tech edge unit, beside the fact that it's hard to watch tach and a/f ratio at the same time, is there any other reason to hit the dyno?

Re: (HiRolla)
Dyno is the same conditions every run, you eliminate all other factors basiclly. If you want it tuned right just go to a dyno w/ wideband.

good idea... anyone done this before?... i wonder how accurate it is... i know its not as good as tuning on the dyno... but it sounds like a good idea for street tuning...

Re: (1.8T_EG)
Make sure you are recording the tach off something accurate (not the stock tach) or else all the fuel changes you make will be happening in the wrong spots, other than that it seems like it should work pretty well.
