Im at a current crossroad

A) turbo my stock B18b now and have fun @ 300whp and build the B18b bottom end when I can or if it gives up. My motor has 70,000 original miles, under the valve cover looks new, and Ive run synthetic (doesnt really matter just felt like adding that fun fact)

B) Ive found a B18c1 motor from oil pan to valve cover minus distributor and fuel rail for $450. He said if I get it this week he will throw in a Victor x intake. Problem is it spun a rod bearing. If I got this motor I would be putting manley H beams and Aires pistons probably. Point is all of my turbo money would go to this motor and when I finally got it running Id be running it for a while NA. Probably next year turbo it to 400-450.


What would you do?

why not buy the longblock, slap the gsr head on your ls block, keep the gsr block as a spare or build it on the side. then you can even put your ls crank in the gsr block down the road.

So buy a Vtec motor to do Lsvtec then build the gsr motor on the side to later do vtec motor. A few things...

Once you convert a vtec head to be used on lsvtec can you convert it back? I know you need to plug something.

Im not sure putting a vtec head on a stock rod/rod bolt ls motor is a great idea...?

I would buy the gsr just for the price and wait to build.

Thats what someone at work suggested. Buy the motor then turbo my stock motor afterwards build thr gsr motor at my own pace.

you WOULD need arp rod bolts to go lsvtec. no matter what tho i dont think you should pass up a gsr longblock for 450 bucks lol. plus a free victor x!

Buy the GSR motor, wouldnt put any money into the LS motor as far as turbo setup just use that to build the gsr block, and save up for turbo

It can be converted back, I still suggest not wasting time/money on it and just keeping the LS stock (time is money, put this effort twards the end result)if your gonna go VTEC anyway. Just do it right build the gsr, Install it, save up for turbo parts

Just getting the GSR motor up and running is going to be at least $2,000. That's the depressing part. Then once I do I'll be looking at a whopping 200whp, maybe.

However once turbo I will be able to go past 300whp.

Youd be silly to pass up a GSR motor with a victor x for $450, knowing youre getting into boost

I would ask while buying it though that the head be removed before you take it away, can be done in 10 minutes, if it really is just a spun bearing there should be no damage to piston tops or valves

Why not use the LS crank in the had long block you're building for boost? Get the best of both worlds..

But yes, get the GSR block no matter what.

That's the plan. He is swapping the GSR crank for a LS crank he has sitting around

From what you have previously stated as expectations for your car.. I'd get the GSR, delay the timeframe of getting it all together a bit, and do it right. No regrets; turning back and wishing you had.. It may seem like more work now, but why half-*** it now?
