Ihave options to do either one, Both will be sleeved and fully built from valve cover to oil pan. What Would you guys choose and why? Or would yall do LS vtec Turbo?

I plan on runnin the Maxrev kit, and i just want the most power bottom line.

If you are going to fully build either go with the B18c1. But if money is an issue and you are going to keep it a stock motor I would run a LS.

Ok heres the deal. Im tryin to get this LS shortblock that has been sleeved and everything balanced, And i will also have a GSR short block lying around, So i was thinkin about turboing the LS and just havin a GSR for backup, or building an even better turbo motor.

you'll get more top end on the gsr motor
but you'll still need our LS tranny!!!

I'm not gonna be offened by that statement

Honesly If money is no object, the GS-R block are built better from the factory. They have a slighty better r/s ratio, better flowing heads versus LS engine, a factory block girdle, higher flowing water and oil pumps, and lets not for get the "almighty" VTEC. But when you're done building it, it's not gonna have many of the factory componets left in it. Most likely only the block casing, crank and head will be the considered "stock". Rods, Pistons, Sleeving, port&polishing, aftermarket valvetrains and any number of other things will be done to a "fully built" engine.

However, LS's are notorious for begin able to handle a good amount of boost with proper tuning without needing to be built. They are cheaper to come by than GS-R engines, and have the same potential in the aftermarket parts wise. You can build an LS engine just as well as a GS-R. Usually there isn't a price difference b/t LS and GS-R internals, unless you're looking at cam shafts of course. And if you get tired of being non-VTEC, you always have the possiblity of swapping on a VTEC head.

But since you say you got a built and balanced LS engine already I guess I just wasted my breath eh? Well since you've got the nice shiny GS-R block there you could salvage the oil/water pumps off of it for your engine(you'll have to use a GS-R timing belt), as well as the girdle/windage tray/oil pick-up/oil pan. You mod the GS-R girdle to work on you LS engine if you wanted. Or you could just sell the GS-R block for $$, and buy the head of your choice (VTEC or Non). A B16 head would look good on there

my LS turbo runs pretty good. stock vs. stock i dont think it really matters which set up u go with, both can do 300whp stock and ur not gonna wanna push either much further then that. but if ur planning on building it, get the gsr it has more potential. im goin gsr turbo when i build my motor.

if you have both ls turbo and gsr turbo cranking out 300 whp, the LS will have more torque due to the increased stroke (granted, a 83mm LS and a 84.5 mm gsr would have nearly identical displacement, but i'm assuming both are the same bore).....so really to get the total best graph out of the dyno, ls/vtec turbo would provide the top end power of the vtec and then the better torque numbers of the ls. that's not to say the other opinions here aren't valid; i'm just sayin is all.

Well when comparing my built LS vs a friends GSR w/pistons, rods. I made more power from the get go, then his motor took over at 6k. He also had an .83 exhuast housing vs my .63 so it wasn't really a fair comparison, but fun non-the-less. If I were to do it over, which I am right now, I'd go with the LS/VTEC. The LS head just won't take the revs, I cracked a couple cam holders a few times when beating on it up to 8k. I ended up making 267 whp and 223 ft lbs at 7lbs, so it was nice for what it was. Later Allen

Oh yeah, I actually like the LS tranny for street/strip, unless you plan on running 25 inch or bigger slicks the LS is just fine for smaller slicks. Just my opinion.
