Valves pulling threw keepers at high boost?
I recently had valvetrain failure from running 25psi on stock ITR valvetrain.
I was doing test pulls in 4th gear checking plugs before going to the dyno. I made 8-9 passes from 20-25psi , checked plugs and took compression test's. My pressures are normaly 210 across but they had dropped to 175 across. I saw no signs of mechanical failure so i left towards home. On my way home my car died at a stop light, compression was now 0 on #3. I towed the car home to fine a broken retainor on the intake side.
The MAIN thing that concerns me is "EVERY" intake valve was starting to pull threw the stock keepers. I believe this is why the one retainor split in two. I believe running that much boost on stock valvetrain did it . I wasnt over revving the valvetrain either, I went to 8k.
This go around i'm staying nonvtec so it's on a P75 workd head. have full Crower Valves, Retainors and d. Springs. And might be ordering 403 or 404's.
What i would like to know is, can this same thing happen when running this high of boost? Reason i ask is because i plan on running around 28-30psi on high boost this season and want this valvetrain to hold together!
The setup
made 366whp 275 ftlbs on .7 bar.
84mm B18b Darton sleeved block
Arais 9.0:1 84mm pistons
LS Pauter Rods
LS crank
ITR oil pump
ITR water pump
B16A (88-91) head
B16A (88-91) cams
AEBS intake mani
InlinePRO T4 SS mani
Turbonetics 62-1, BB
2.5' revhard charge pipes
31x 11.75 x3 FMIC
3inch DP
3inch Ktellar exhaust
Uberdata
1000cc injectors
Walbro255
3bar
Sorry if this sounds incomplete, i'm rushing to write this up so i can take care of other things for work in the morning.
TIA!!!

Re: Valves pulling threw keepers at high boost? (JDMs1eeper)
I've heard that even w/ aftermarket valvetrain that the valves can still pull threw at high boost. Anyone have any take on this? Crower's at 30psi

i've heard this happening with aluminium retainers not the stock ones.
the only time the stock retainers crack is when they are being used with really stiff valve springs and running really high rpm.
OR if they are really old and fatigued. if you have a 88-91 B16 head and used the original retainers those are some old *** retainers.

ok age is prolly what did them in. I never revved the motor that high. I dont believe i saw any heat damage on the retainors but ill go check them out.
I just hope i dont have this problem w/ my new valvetrain.
thanks guys for your imput.
