Default V-tech sandrail

I'm a student in an automotive program and next semester I'm taking an engine building class. I have a b16a bottom end, just the block and the crank. I want to build a little 2 seater long travel buggy. I know the b16a isn't very impressive stock but can handle a lot of boost with all forged internals and great tuning. I've already decided I want to go the supercharger rout because of the instant throttle response. What kind of sc would yield the best low to mid range torque? I need to have an intercooler to because I'm going to be running 12+ psi. If u have estimates on the cost for the whole kit that'd be awesome. I've never heard of someone using a honda motor on a sand rail so if anyone has any prior knowledge that can give some advice that'd be great

Torue needs displacement..id start with a larger platform depending on budget and goals. Gsr is 1.8 stock bore....plans to sleeve? Can go to 84MM. JSRC for the supercharger. Will need the lht kit to keep iats down at that boost level........still won't be a tq *****...hondas spin to win, we make are power where some engines stop....changing the attributes and reaching your goals could be an issue depending on what those are. So lets hear more about your goals.

The sand rail is probably gonna be in the 1000 1200 lb area, I'm hoping for 275- 300 hp and around 140 - 160 lb/ft. As far as goals, I want it to be reliable more than anything, with something that light, 250+ hp and 140 ft/lbs should be more than enough power.

What is a lht kit and what are iat's? Sorry don't know abbreviations too wells yet. And with the jrsc what type? Don't they make a roots and a centrifugal sc? (Jrsc is Jackson racing super charger ) right?

B16's dont have any torque and a supercharger IMO would be a waste. those engines are rev happy and work well with a properly sized turbocharger that will give mid range and excellent top end power, combined with the close ratio gear box its a win win.

Would the lag from a turbo ruin performance in the desert? I'm concerned with the pickup after coming out of corners. I don't wanna get stuck waiting for the turbo to spool up. I've heard a super charger is better for instant power.

That's awesome to hear. Do you happen to know if they ran in with a turbo or sc?

If your have a properly sized turbocharger it will spool up just fine, and when you come out of corners your will be in a lower gear and higher in the revs which will help with respool. talk to theshodan about a correct sized turbo for the application

I just read an article where one of these was boosted to 24 psi on a lost stock internals I think he had low cr pistons and that's it
Yup I found the article check this out

Does anyone know of. A roots charger you can boost past 10 psi?

Turbo is starting to look like the right choice... I keep reading that sc don't work as well anything past 10 psi and the air gets to hot. Can you not use intercoolers on super chargers?
