Engine options: b16a + boost / K20a2 / other
Hello gang
Current: Have Canadian b16a, stock.
Want: More usable power, more low/mid-end power/torque.
Eventually WILL END UP WITH: Fully Built K-series with Boost
Option 1: Stick with stock b16a, perhaps put on a few cost effective mods at most. This way I can get my K-swap sooner. BUT, the K-swap will be STOCK when put to use. No K-pro, nothing... Just whatever is necessary to get it running reliably. I'll lose the ability to get it fully built without downtime, and it'll be a few years before it is fully built.
Option 2: b16a + boost. Put on a decent turbo kit consisting of gt2871r or precision turbo, equal length, actual engine management [a full kit]. I'll be fast and enjoy it for now, but it'll be a long while before I get my K-swap. I can purchase and build the K-swap while I have my turbo though. This will probably be slightly cheaper than just a K-swap minus what I get for the b16a.
Option 3: b16a + CHEAP boost. Mostly used parts, $1500 budget; log manifold, fmu + missing link at most. Hopefully if I shop around for a while it'll actually be an acceptable kit parted together. I'll be somewhat fast for a while, I'd question the reliability, but I'd get my K-swap a little sooner.
Other options: Any input is appreciated!
I'm starting to dislike option 3...
Addendum: I'm adding 60-75 pounds of non-removable weight this summer. When I choose an option for more power, an addition 50 pounds of non-removable weight will be added, as well as a bunch more in removable weight. I figure it's ok as long as I can remove most of it for the track. Also, it's a stripped car; it can be afforded.
It'll be sound-deadening and sound-treatment weight. The removable weight will be audio equipment.
Any advice here? I'm also starting to lean toward Option 1 here...heh; it seems least wasteful. I figure I can do a few bolt-on mods as time progresses and get my money's worth. When it comes time to do the real build up, I'll do it all at once hopefully to minimize down-time. Swapping the engine earlier will also give me an excuse to change out my Race stiffness-HAsport mounts to something more streetable.
Again, thanks for any thoughts/opinions. Later on

After a bit of researching, I think I'll go with Option 1.
I'll do a few bolt-on mods to free up some power on the cheap: GSXR ITBs, ported head, thinner headgasket, and a new header if I can find one for cheap.
I'd rather just save money for a better engine, and I figure I can still have fun with the extra power I free up with this one.

we can put a kit together for you, "Atheist" has something VERY similar to option 2 and the car just rips nuts. Gives my turbo S2000 a run for its $
