Using Silicone Sealant to hold PSI from boost???
Hi guys, i have an OBD2 del sol that has the intake air temp sensor which connects to the charge pipe. I tapped a hole on my charge pipe for the sensor. the thing is, apparently once BOOST pressure is pushed through that pipe, that sensor is going to come flying out. I was thinking about using SILICONE to HOLD that baby in there but im not sure if it is STRONG enough to handle the pressure. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback or advice on what adhesive to use? I really want to leave that sensor at that area and avoid having to weld anything. Thanks a million guys.
Heres an example of where the sensor. This one is welded but im trying to avoid that cuz my charge pipe is made of aluminum. I already made a whole to insert the sensor into.

If its a plastic sensor from a bi16 there is no way to weld it in there I had the same issue but if you are boosted and have engine management just swap out the sensor for a threaded version that works with your managemnt and then weld it in.The silicone will not hold it forever and it also depends on how much boost you are running.

Re: Using Silicone Sealant to hold PSI from boost???
Thanks for the advise. I'm only going to be boosting 10lbs at most and it is the plastic sensor. What kind of sensor will I need to get IF I do weld a bung on there? The reason why I don't want to weld is because the pipe is made of aluminum. I'm not sure which bung to get. I want to avoid having to extend wires and things of that nature which is why I want to find some kind of SEALANT if possible.

You may consider brazing the alum. but silicone by itself will not hold. You need something that is threaded to hold the sensor in the pipe.
There isn't any reason to skimp on small things such as this on any setup really.
It is worth the $10-20 or so to have a proper bung put in and attached correctly and the extra time it may take to extend the wires.

Just put a hole for the oem grommet in your charge pipe, (use a uni-bit and go slow) put the grommet in and put the original obd2 sensor in. Done
I have had mine like that going on 2 years now and it has never blown off/out. I make 430+whp and my setup has seen upwards of 30 psi on occasion, and I have no issues with it the way I'm telling you to do it.
If it's pushing out under boost, you made the hole for the grommet to big and it's not sealing right. If anyone tells you it will pop out they either haven't ran this setup before or they didn't do it right. If you use any other sensor you will have to cut and solder on an obd1 plug which is more work that isn't needed.
