Unless you are trapping 140 in the 1/4 I wouldn't worry about the gearing being too short. You will just burn a little more gas on the interstate and shift more often on the street.

Yes a type R tranny is a good quarter mile tranny.

Why do people keep harping about trannies being too short for boost?! It's a myth!

Not true. If I wanted to stay in boost longer I'd launchin 3rd gear, that is total BS. ITR and B16 trannies are great for boost, especially with some 25 or 26" slicks.

Actually, it's only a problem if your making a lot of hp. But people do try to use tranny's that are too long for their application. Like using an LS tranny on a car making 200whp instead of a SI/type R.

When I say a lot, I'm talking about 450+whp or so. You can still drive it without problems, but if you want to be as fast as possible you would be better off with a GSR tranny in that case. Since this in in FI forum, I'm assuming that it's not NA. So your power band is more than likely not as short as a NA car's and it would benifit from longer gears and so you don't shift as offend either.

Even still, with a longer power band and shorter gears, that just means you will reach peak power quicker. I don't see a problem with that. If you want to accelerate as fast as possible, you need the shortest gearing available. If you want to have the highest cruising speeds, you need the longest gearing available. Stop me at any point where I am wrong...please.

your right if your talking about a race car, but I can tell you from experience that its no fun for daily driving. But hey, use what ever you want.

I have an S1...very short gears, daily driven. I love it...4K on the highway doesn't bother me one bit.

yeah i have a b16 tranny on my lsvtec and it is great for quater and not bad on highway, but again, i thought you wanted to stay in your powerbad longer in a forced induction car, if you have short gears and shift alot, you wont be in your powerband enough and therefore be wasting power

b16 trannys and type r trannys r great for boost cuz u reach peak power faster. it doesnt really matter about how short it is unless you're on street tires or small slicks. as long as u dont get into 5th then you're fine

Are you really talking from experience or are you assuming? I have a stock tranny on my R (JDM 4.7 final drive) and its easy to drive. Turn up the boost and its a lot of fun...yeah sure, you gotta shift every .5 second but its the greatest feeling!

wrong, you'll go through your powerband faster and reach peak power faster. this is desirable.

I can vouch for the shifting every .5 sec., its fun though. picks up like a sport bike.

sup fello hmong dood.

yeah i'm in the same delma. I have 2 gsr trannys and i'm thinking about selling both to get a NEW ITR tranny fresh out the box from acura.
But my buddie is telling me to stick with my GSR tranny.

I'll be making about 230whp daily driven and 300whp race days.
I have a small turbo on my gsr so i already get instant boost.

what would you guys do?

i think the final drive on a type r tranny would be too much for your turbo setup as well as the short gears. stick with the gsr tranny but get a good lsd and your should be set. Just my opinion.
